Dowel Action in reinforced concrete construction (beam-column connections)
2010The transfer of shear in a beam-column joint by dowel action alone was experimentally and analytically studied. The laboratory work involved the shear capacity determination of individual reinforcing steel dowels embedded in concrete. Two main series of experimental tests were conducted on bottom and top dowels - component parts of a beam-column joint.

Modeling dowel action of reinforcement bars for finite element analysis of concrete structures
Computers & Structures, 2001Abstract A numerical model for the dowel action of reinforcement bars crossing cracks in concrete is developed for finite element analysis of concrete structures. The beam on elastic foundation theory is used to derive the dowel force–displacement relationship, which is expressed in a smeared form in terms of dowel stress and strain in order to be ...

Experimental Investigation of Dowel Action in RC Beams without shear reinforcement
2020The shear failure mechanism of reinforced concrete beams has been studied intensively for the last decades and there is a general agreement that the failure involves several shear transferring mechanisms, including aggregate interlock, shear carrying mechanism of the uncracked compression zone and dowel action.
