Experimental Evaluation of Prototype Seismic Retrofits for Precast Concrete Hollow‐Core Floors

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 1, February 2026.
Existing hollow‐core floors are vulnerable to nonductile failure and potential collapse under earthquake loading. This study presents the development and experimental evaluation of novel comprehensive seismic retrofits for hollow‐core floors. These retrofits include a strongback‐type retrofit that provides an alternative gravity load path through steel

Influence of Biological Pretreatment of Wooden Dowels on Strength of Rotary Welded Joints

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Welding wood achieves joints whose strength is comparable with the strength of glued joints. When welding, the top of the dowel is not welded because of the lack of melted lignin.

Studying the Impact of Soil Stabilization Techniques on Rigid Pavement Joints Across Various Axle Loads

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية
Rigid pavement slabs are erected on a prepared subgrade or foundation layer, providing a hard and continuous surface. Transverse joints made of dowel bars connect them, and longitudinal joints made of tie bars join them longitudinally.

NUMERICAL MODELING AND FULL-SCALE EXPERIMENTS OF GLUED WOODEN STRUCTURES JOINT DESTRUCTION ON CARBON-FIBER DOWEL PINS

open access: yesInternational Journal for Computational Civil and Structural Engineering, 2020
This paper presents the results of numerical modeling and full-scale experiments of the failure process of a glued laminated timber beam with rigid joint in the middle. All the connecting parts are made of carbon fiber.

Strip loading in reinforced concrete: Mechanical modeling and experimental validation

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 163-192, February 2026.
Abstract Strip loading of reinforced concrete is a common problem in engineering practice. The concrete compressive strength at the load introduction can be several times higher than the uniaxial concrete compressive strength, which can be attributed to geometrical and passive confining stresses caused by load dispersion and reinforcement, respectively.

Experimental investigations and design of precast concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet slender columns with intermediate connection

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 193-210, February 2026.
Abstract Concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet (CFSCS) offers confinement to the core concrete while the outer galvanized corrugated steel sheet (GCSS) offers excellent corrosion resistance. Application of precast multiple CFSCS columns connected through high‐performance concrete (HPC) in constructing a slender column offers ease of construction while

Field Evaluation of Elliptical Fiber Reinforced Polymer Dowel Performance, June 2003

open access: yes, 2003
Fiber composite materials (FRP) are making an entry into the construction market in both buildings and pavements. The application to pavements comes in the form of joint reinforcement (dowels and tie bars) to date.

Dual‐mode strategy for sintering‐stability and bonding of SLA additively manufactured ceramic green bodies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study introduces a dual‐mode green‐state strategy for stereolithography‐based ceramic additive manufacturing. In the first mode, UV‐curable resin‐assisted bonding enables the assembly of monolithic ceramic architectures, expanding design freedom.

Entangled Multistable Origami with Reprogrammable Stiffness Amplification and Damping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 5, 15 January 2026.
This study introduces a class of origami‐inspired metamaterials that overcome the limitations of existing multistable metamaterials by eliminating the need for rigid lateral confinements. Panel entanglement, snap‐through interactions, and instabilities synergy enable them to achieve extensive shape‐shifting, enhanced stiffness, and remarkable energy ...
