Cytokine down-regulation in endotoxin tolerance.

European cytokine network, 1993
Cytokine production is down-regulated in LPS tolerance. 1) This down-regulation has been reported in various animal species and cell types, and can be induced both in vivo and in vitro (indicating a desensitization of the cytokine-producing cells). 2) It can also be induced in humans in vivo and in vitro. 3) It is reversible, since the refractory state

CDK2 translational down-regulation during endothelial senescence

Experimental Cell Research, 2005
Here we report for the first time that loss of CDK2 activity, by translational inhibition and through CDK2 inhibition by p21(Cip1/Waf1), may be responsible for endothelial senescence. We show that expression of dominant-negative p53 extends human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) lifespan past senescence.

Down-regulation of Dicer in hepatocellular carcinoma

Medical Oncology, 2010
Dicer, the key enzyme in the RNAi pathway, is misregulated in tumor tissues. The altered expression of Dicer is associated with clinical characteristics in patients with cancer. Liver carcinoma and adjacent non-neoplastic tissues were obtained from 36 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing surgery.

Down-regulation of MeCP2 in Hirschsprung's disease

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2013
Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) is a congenital disorder characterized by the absence of intramural ganglion cells which are highly associated with impaired proliferation and migration of neural crest cells. Whether methyl CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) is related with HSCR still remains unknown.

Physiological and pathophysiological down-regulation of cough

Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology, 2006
Recent clinical studies have emphasized the up-regulation (sensitization) of cough in pathological conditions of the airways. However there are also many situations where voluntary and reflex cough can be down-regulated. These include: (1) chemical stimulation of breathing by hypercapnia or hypoxia or both, establishing that cough sensitivity can be ...

Down Regulation of Fc Receptors by IVIgG

International Reviews of Immunology, 1989
IVIgG preparations are now widely applied for immune modulatory treatment in various forms of autoimmune and immune complex diseases. Several controlled studies clearly demonstrated the clinical efficacy of this type of treatment; the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms, however, have yet to be elucidated.

Down-regulation of inhibition following unilateral deafening

Hearing Research, 2000
Physiological and neurochemical experiments described here suggest that unilateral deafening causes a reduction in inhibition in the adult gerbil inferior colliculus (IC) contralateral to the deafened ear. Multiple-unit recordings were made from single electrode penetrations in the IC prior to and directly after contralateral cochlear ablation.

[Down-regulation and hibernating myocardium].

Zeitschrift fur Kardiologie, 1992
Some homeothermic animals can survive adverse conditions by hibernation, i.e., by reducing their body temperature in accordance with ambient temperature, thus reducing metabolism and vital functions. Six years ago, the term hibernation was introduced to describe a particular state of the myocardium.
