Abstract The world continues to lose late‐successional and old‐growth (LSOG) forest as the human population and demand for wood fiber grow. However, older forest age classes provide structural and compositional characteristics important to biodiversity that are often not present in forests managed for timber.

Evaluating the Use of a Nonlinear Two-Dimensional Model in Downslope Windstorm Forecasts
Abstract Severe downslope windstorms are a mesoscale, primarily wintertime, phenomenon that affect regions in the lee of large mountain ranges. The resolution of current weather prediction models is too coarse to explicitly predict downslope windstorms. Hence, additional operational tools are needed for making downslope windstorm forecasts.

Sydney downslope windstorm event on 31 October 2023
A moderate-strength downslope windstorm occurred in the Sydney Metropolitan Area during the early morning of 31 October 2023. It was a rare event in view of the climatology of Sydney, as some stations reported the highest wind gusts in the last 20 years.
