The downy mildew disease is caused by the fungus Hyaloperonospora parasitica (Gaum.) Goker. The nomenclature of the disease is based on symptoms on the infected leaves with downy fungal growth. The upper surface of affected young and older leaves has ill-defined, irregular, pale yellow necrotic lesions, whereas the lower surface is covered by white ...

Downy Mildew-Grapevine Interaction
2020Downy mildew is one of the most destructive diseases affecting viticulture, caused by Plasmopara viticola Berl. and De Toni, an obligate biotrophic oomycete whose life cycle is mostly maintained in any grapevine green tissue. Infection of grapevine begins in spring with dispersed sporangium produced from oospores and lasts until the end of summer.

Forecasting Downy Mildew Diseases
2004Within the oomycetes, the Peronosporales consist of many fungal pathogens capable of causing substantial losses to important crops, such as, for example, Plasmopara viticola on grapes and Bremia lactucae on lettuce (Spencer, 1981). Growers are faced with many problems in controlling downy mildew diseases: (i) many varieties are not completely resistant

Downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sorghi) causes serious economic losses in sorghum crops. The biology, epidemiology and control of the pathogen are described in this review. It is suggested that host plant resistance is the best solution for control of downy mildew.
