Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1982
The chemistry, mode of action, antimicrobial activity, pharmacokinetics, and therapeutic efficacy of doxycycline are reviewed. Doxycycline displays excellent activity against gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic pathogens. The oral absorption of doxycycline is rapid and virtually complete and is not significantly decreased by food ...

Doxycycline and Hepatotoxicity
Acta Clinica Belgica, 1992The hepatotoxicity of tetracyclines is well known. If microvesicular steatosis due to a high dose of tetracycline has virtually disappeared, it can also be observed with other drugs belonging to the tetracycline family. To our knowledge, hepatotoxicity induced by doxycycline has never been reported.

Doxycycline Therapy for Leptospirosis
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1984To study antibiotic efficacy, 29 patients with leptospirosis were treated in a randomized, double-blinded fashion with doxycycline, 100 mg orally twice a day, or placebo. Therapy was given for 7 days in a hospital, and patients were followed for 3 weeks afterwards. Duration of illness before therapy and severity of illness were the same in both groups.

Doxycycline-lnduced Esophagitis
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1985History A 20-year-old woman presented with a history of several days of dysphagia and burning retrosternal pain radiating to her back. The pain was exacerbated with either solid or liquid ingestion, but was constantly present. She noticed no improvement with changes in position, and was unable to sleep, because of the pain.

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 2020
BACKGROUND Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) is often treated with intravenous ceftriaxone even if doxycycline is suggested to be non-inferior to ceftriaxone. We evaluated the efficacy of oral doxycycline in comparison to ceftriaxone in the treatment of LNB.

Doxycycline and intracranial hypertension
Neurology, 2004The authors report seven patients from six neuro-ophthalmology referral centers who developed pseudo-tumor cerebri during treatment with doxycycline. All four female patients and one of three male patients were obese. Vision was minimally affected in most patients, but two had substantial visual acuity or visual field loss at presentation ...

Pharmacokinetics of Doxycycline Reabsorption
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1980Two cyclic linear compartment models are proposed to investigate the reabsorption mechanism of doxycycline. In one model, reabsorption is considered to be continuous; in the other model, it is discontinuous. The continuous model, when fitted, leads to one real and two complex conjugate eigenvalues, corresponding to a regression equation consisting of a

Behaviour of Doxycycline in the Tissues
Chemotherapy, 1975Little is known about the behaviour of antibiotics in the tissues. To investigate this problem, rats were sacrificed in groups of six, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 18 h after an intraperitoneal injection of 10 mg doxycycline/kg body weight. The antibiotic levels were determined in the nine major organs and in the serum by a microbiological method.

The Disposition of Doxycycline by the Rat
Chemotherapy, 1972The disposition by rats of tritium-labeled doxycycline was investigated. More drug is eliminated from the circulatory system by diffusion into the lumen of the small intestine than by excretion with urine or bile. Enzymatic degradation of drug either does not take place at all, or to a small extent only.

Doxycycline Prophylaxis for Shigellosis
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1990The efficacy of oral doxycycline, 100 mg/d for 14 days, in reducing the incidence of shigellosis in newcomers to an area hyperendemic for the disease was examined in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Of 107 entrants, 100 completed the study; 50 received the drug and 50 received a placebo. Diarrheal disease and associated symptoms were monitored
