Doubly adaptive DPCM

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1990
An adaptive differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) algorithm is presented that determines, for each window, the best causal nonsymmetric half-plane region of support (ROS) in addition to the best prediction coefficients. First, a recursive algorithm is developed that determines the best (in the sense of minimizing the mean-square error) first ...

Multiplierless predictor for DPCM of images

Proceedings of the 2003 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003. ISCAS '03., 2003
The design methodology of a multiplierless predictor is presented for differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) of images. Multiplierless implies that each coefficient of the predictor is a power-of-two number. Therefore, all multiplications can be performed by simple shifting operations.

Simulation of DPCM and ADM Systems

2012 UKSim 14th International Conference on Computer Modelling and Simulation, 2012
Through years, Digital Communication systems, Pulse Coded Modulation (PCM), Linear Delta Modulation (LDM), Differential Pulse Coded Modulation (DPCM), and Adaptive Delta Modulation (ADM), have proven their unlimited advantages over analog communication systems, in term of error minimization, and distances of transmission enhancement.

A Recursive Digital Filter Using DPCM

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1976
A recursive digital filter using differential pulse-code modulation (DPCM) is proposed. The filter can realize any rational transfer function without the need for a new design. Results on roundoff error and limit cycle oscillations are presented. The implementation of these filters is also discussed.

Videophone with DPCM mode

IEEE TENCON'90: 1990 IEEE Region 10 Conference on Computer and Communication Systems. Conference Proceedings, 2002
Several high compression rate coding techniques are discussed which are meant to reduce the transmission bit-rate of moving pictures of a videophone to that of a digital baseband of 64 kbps. An experimental system based on a digital pulse code modulation (DPCM) system gave acceptable picture quality at 144 kbps for scenes with moderate motion.

DPCM with median predictors

SPIE Proceedings, 1992
A DPCM system employing a median predictor, which is called the predictive median-DPCM (PM-DPCM), is proposed. An interesting property that in PM-DPCM transmission noise is often isolated and not propagated over the reconstructed signals is observed and analyzed deterministically as well as statistically.

A Postfiltered DPCM Scheme

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1985
Quantization noise constitutes the limiting factor on DPCM performance. For a low number of levels in the quantizer, this noise is also correlated. In this correspondence we present a technique for improving the performance of the DPCM system at a very modest cost.

Multistage selective dpcm

Electronics and Communications in Japan (Part I: Communications), 1980
AbstractThe DPCM, a representative prediction encoding system of picture signals, produces two conflicting noises‐overload and granular. This paper describes the selective DPCM that separates picture signals into edge and slant components, and an optimum encoding is applied for each component to consider the two noises.

On the continuity of the stationary state distribution of DPCM

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1990
Continuity and singularity properties of the stationary state distribution of differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) are explored. Two-level DPCM (i.e. delta modulation) operating on a first-order autoregressive source is considered, and it is shown that, when the magnitude of the DPCM prediction coefficient is between zero and one-half, the ...
