Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

Influence of Runner Downstream Structure on the Flow Field in the Draft Tube of a Small-Sized Water Turbine

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The flow in the draft tube of the water turbine is affected by the upstream flow and the inherent structure accompanied by various undesirable characteristics, affecting the efficient and stable operation of the water turbine. Changing the flow structure

Transient Simulation for a Pumped Storage Power Plant Considering Pressure Pulsation Based on Field Test

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this study, fast Fourier transform and inverse transform are adopted for noise reduction filtering the data of load rejection pressure of a single unit in a one-tube, four-unit pumped storage power station. Five-spot triple smoothing method is used to

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Regimes with periodical pressure pulsation in Francis draft tube

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The paper reports on results of the experimental study of flow and pressure pulsations in a laboratory model of the draft tube of Francis-99 hydro turbine over a broad range of operating regimes. A novelty is the rapid prototyping and 3-d printing of the

Flow Field Analysis of Francis Turbine Draft Tube using POD at Design and Part Load Operating Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
The hydraulic turbines, especially Francis turbines, frequently run at part load (PL) conditions to meet the dynamic energy needs. The flow field at the runner exit changes significantly with a change in the operating point.

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

CFD SIMULATION OF THE HYDRODYNAMICS AND MIXING TIME IN A STIRRED TANK [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2010
Hydrodynamics and mixing efficiency in stirred tanks influence power draw and are therefore important for the design of many industrial processes. In the present study, both experimental and simulation methods were employed to determine the flow fields ...

Vortex rope instabilities in a model of conical draft tube

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We report on experimental studies of the formation of vortex ropes in a laboratory simplified model of hydroturbine draft tube. Work is focused on the observation of various flow patterns at the different rotational speed of turbine runner at fixed flow ...
