Turbulent channel flow near maximum drag reduction: simulations, experiments and mechanisms
It is well known that the drag in a turbulent flow of a polymer solution is significantly reduced compared to Newtonian flow. Here we consider this phenomenon by means of a direct numerical simulation of a turbulent channel flow.

Effectiveness of active flow control for turbulent skin friction drag reduction [PDF]
The effectiveness of the opposition control method proposed by Choi et al. [J. Fluid Mech. 262, 75 (1994)] has been studied using direct numerical simulations.

An Empirical Model of Aerodynamic Drag in Alpine Skiing
This paper describes an empirical model of aerodynamic drag for a range of body positions commonly used in alpine skiing. In order to calculate the drag coefficient (CD), a method for calculating the frontal area of an alpine skier, inside a wind tunnel,

Antimicrobial Activity of Lactobacillus plantarum Strains Isolated from Fermented Olives Origin
Background: Lactobacillus plantarum isolated from fermented olives has been extensively studied with the aim of its use in starter cultures for olive or other production fermentations, but little is known about its antimicrobial resistance and its ...

Strategies for in-orbit calibration of drag-free control systems
Drag-Free Satellites (DFS) are a class of scientific satellite missions designed for research on fundamental physics as well as geodesy. They consist, basically, of a small inner satellite (test mass) located in a cavity inside a larger satellite, the ...

“A Novel Against the Novel”: David Markson’s Antinovelistic Tetralogy [PDF]
The antinovel is a niche genre which positions itself radically and emphatically against what might be called the conventional novel. It chooses to dispense with such novelistic devices as linear plot, cause-and-effect relation of events,
