Flow in linearly sheared two dimensional foams: from bubble to bulk scale
We probe the flow of two dimensional foams, consisting of a monolayer of bubbles sandwiched between a liquid bath and glass plate, as a function of driving rate, packing fraction and degree of disorder.

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

A rotational energy harvesting device that successfully reconciles high power density with mechanical durability through a hybrid sliding‐and‐bouncing kinematic mechanism is reported. The success reported in our paper includes addressing a dilemma where enhanced electrical output comes at the cost of increased friction and wear, limiting the practical ...

Optimization and Experimental Testing of the Drag Torque Model Based on the Cavitation Effect
In the non-braking operation of the wet brake in a heavy vehicle's hybrid power transmission system, the friction pair produces a drag torque due to the power loss caused by the viscous action of the oil.

Signal and power roll ring testing update [PDF]
The development of the roll ring as a long-life, low-torque alternative to the slip ring is discussed. A roll ring consists of one or more circular flexures captured by their own spring force in the annular space between two concentric conductors or ...

Review of antiskid and brake dynamics research [PDF]
The behavior of various antiskid systems was investigated under controlled conditions. Results from utilizing a single main wheel of a DC-9 aircraft suggest that the systems investigated perform well under most circumstances but there may be room for ...

On the width and shape of the corotation region for low-mass planets
We study the coorbital flow for embedded, low mass planets. We provide a simple semi-analytic model for the corotation region, which is subsequently compared to high resolution numerical simulations. The model is used to derive an expression for the half-

Modeling of the Dynamics of Conical Separate Plates in a Wet Multi-Disc Clutch
Wet multi-disc clutches in transmission systems suffer from the incomplete separation of the friction components, which raises the drag torque and results in power loss and heightened fuel consumption.
