Cave depth and subterranean connectivity are drivers of intraspecific trait variability in two subterranean congeneric beetles

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, Page 153-164, February 2026.
The abundance of cave beetles increases with depth, with Duvalius hartigi exhibiting maximum densities at greater depths in volcanic systems. Troglomorphic traits become more pronounced with increasing depth exclusively in the alpine species Duvalius carantii.

Influence of forest cover and sex on wing size and shape of a spider‐hunting wasp in the Brazilian Atlantic forest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, Page 165-176, February 2026.
Forest cover significantly influences the wing shape of female Trypoxylon lactitarse. Females exhibit longer and narrower wings, linked to greater flight efficiency and dispersal. Sexual dimorphism indicates that females respond differently to ecological pressures, underscoring the role of forest cover in species persistence.

Polyethylene Melt Rupture and Slip in Simple Shear: A Visual and Mechanistic Study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 3, January 15, 2026.
Slip velocity transient curve (left) with images of the specimen at different times during a simple shear experiment. On the right, schematics illustrate the sample and its side view before and after simple shear. ABSTRACT Melt rupture of a bimodal molecular weight distribution polyethylene is studied under simple shear via flow visualization ...
