Comparison of Partial Cystectomy and Tube Drainage Technique with Other Surgical Methods in Hydatid Cysts of the Liver

open access: yes, 2014
Aim: Since radical surgical methods in the treatment of hydatid cysts of the liver have been replaced by less invasive surgical interventions nowadays, partial cystectomy and tube drainage (PCTD) have been more popular.

Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...

Non-Surgical Biliary Drainage on Biliary Obstruction due to Malignancy

open access: yes, 2001
Surgery is still the golden standard of curative therapy for malignant biliary obstruction, but only 10- 20% of cases considered resectable. Therefore, palliative therapy to relieve pain, cholestasis, and biliary obstruction, is the main treatment for ...

Modular Control of PEG‐Poly(2‐Oxazoline) Co‐Assembly Enables Tunable Aggregate Properties for Intraocular Pressure Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A thermo‐responsive poly(2‐oxazoline)‐based injectable formulation is developed to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in both normal and hypotonic eyes. By adjusting the PEG content, the aggregation behavior is finely tuned, enabling IOP elevation without long‐term deposition.

Prolonged Prophylactic Antibiotics Based on Preoperative Bile Culture Reduce Surgical Site Infections After Pancreaticoduodenectomy Following Preoperative Biliary Drainage: A Propensity‐Matched Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery
Objective The optimum duration of prophylactic antibiotics after pancreaticoduodenectomy following preoperative biliary drainage to prevent surgical site infections remains controversial. We evaluate whether a prolonged course of prophylactic antibiotics

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

Gellan Gum Fluid Gel System for Controlled‐Delivery of Cytokine‐Licensed MSC‐EVs to Enhance Corneal Repair in Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gellan gum fluid gel (FG) enables controlled ocular delivery of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)‐derived extracellular vesicles (EV). Its shear‐thinning, solid‐liquid‐solid rheology ensures prolonged ocular retention. Sustained MSC‐EV release (∼18% in 6 hrs) supports effective EV ocular delivery.
