Sea ice drift detection has the key role of global climate analysis and waterway planning. The ability to detect sea ice drift in real-time also contributes to the safe navigation of ships and the prevention of offshore oil platform accidents.

Results of an earlier study suggest that sea ice drift in climate models is unrealistic, and this has undermined confidence in model projections of ‘‘long-term’’ (i.e., secular) Arctic sea ice loss. We revisit this by analyzing 22 models participating in

Sea ice local surface topography from single-pass satellite InSAR measurements: a feasibility study [PDF]
Quantitative parameters characterizing the sea ice surface topography are needed in geophysical investigations such as studies on atmosphere–ice interactions or sea ice mechanics.Recently, the use of space-borne single-pass interferometric synthetic ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

An ice drift model for the Baltic Sea [PDF]
A dynamical model for simulating and forecasting motion of sea ice fields in the Baltic Sea is presented. The model is based on the equations for conservation of mass and momentum and on an equation describing the distribution of ice mass. In the model, ice drift is caused by wind; currents beneath the boundary layer in the sea are neglected.

Variability in Arctic sea ice drift [PDF]
Analysis of Arctic sea ice drift from 1979–1997 using a Lagrangian perspective shows the complexities of ice drift response to variations in atmospheric conditions. Changes in ice dynamics influence the redistribution of ice, and any transported material, from different source areas.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Seismic stratigraphy and history of deep circulation and sediment drift development in Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea [PDF]
Drilling results and seismic-reflection records at and across Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Sites 645 (western Baffin Bay), 646, and 647 (Labrador Sea) provide important constraints on the history of deep-water circulation and sedimentation in response to

Barents Sea drift ice characteristics
A short review of the ice field characteristics in the Barents Sea is given. A digitised ice distribution data set covering the period 1966-88 has been used to calculate the probability distribution of sea ice and temporal trends. The ice-covered area between 68 and 83°N and 10 and 55°E at the end of the melting season is found to have been reduced by ...

The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).
