The Effect of Drilling Mud Flow on the Lateral and Axial Vibrations of Drill String

ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, Volume 5, 2010
In this research, the effects of drilling mud flow and WOB force on the lateral vibration of drill string are investigated. To this goal, the kinetic and potential energy of drill string for axial and lateral vibrations are written in an integral equation.

The Effects of Drilling Mud and Weight Bit on Stability and Vibration of a Drill String

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 2011
The main goal of this research is to analyze the effects of drilling mud flow rate, drill string weight, weight on bit and angular velocity on stability and vibration of a drill string. To this end, kinetic and potential energies of a rotating drill string are written while axial and lateral vibrations are considered.

System and method for damping vibration in a drill string

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
A system for damping vibration in a drill string can include a valve assembly having a supply of a fluid, a first member, and a second member capable of moving in relation to first member in response to vibration of the drill bit. The first and second members define a first and a second chamber for holding the fluid.

Analysis of the Influences of Drilling Fluid Flow Velocity inside and outside the Drilling String on Drilling String Lateral Vibration Frequency

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Drilling string lateral vibration is a severe damage, which is influenced by many complex factors. This paper makes a theoretical analysis of the drilling string lateral vibration frequency caused by drilling fluid flow velocity inside and outside the drilling string, which supplies some evidence for calculating rotation speed of rotary table and ...

PASSIVE VIBRATION CONTROL OF PERIODIC DRILL STRING

2017
In this dissertation, the stop and pass bands (i.e. the band gaps) characteristics are determined for gyroscopic systems by developing an approach which is compatible with such class of systems which is based on the concept of Bloch wave propagation in periodic structures.

Torsional Vibration of Drill String Induced by Heave Motion in Deepwater Drilling

Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering
Abstract Understanding drill string dynamics is essential to improving drilling efficiency and preventing accidents. Previous studies have mainly focused on self-excited oscillations due to stick–slip and bit-bounce. However, in deepwater drilling, large weight-on-bit (WOB) fluctuations due to heave motion are a significant concern that ...
