Water Influence on the Determination of the Rock Matrix Bulk Modulus in Reservoir Engineering and Rock-Fluid Coupling Projects

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
This research was conducted to determine how the incorporation of different poroelastic equations would affect the measured rock matrix bulk modulus in the laboratory.

Does dose calculation algorithm affect the dosimetric accuracy of synthetic CT for MR‐only radiotherapy planning in brain tumors?

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study compares the dosimetric accuracy of deep‐learning‐based MR synthetic CT (sCT) in brain radiotherapy between the Analytical Anisotropic Algorithm (AAA) and AcurosXB (AXB). Additionally, it proposes a novel metric to predict the dosimetric accuracy of sCT for individual post‐surgical brain cases.

Investigation of Old Exploration Boreholes in the Lublin Basin with Regard to Potential Rotary-Percussion Drilling of Shale Gas Wells

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
The rotary-percussion drilling method is a prospective way to decrease drilling costs. It is obvious, based on literature analyses and finished geothermal drilling, that the Lublin Basin can be perceived as the one where rotary-percussion drilling can be

Wood wasp inspired space and earth drill [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this chapter, we explain why the low gravity encountered on Mars or on the Moon and the low mass of the probes, landers and rovers that carry drilling devices limit classical drilling techniques.

Drilling for microbes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2013
For scientists who study subseafloor sediment, it’s not unusual to spend a lot of time at sea aboard a ship with a gaping hole in its hull. Known as a moon pool, the hole serves as a portal for the ship’s weighty drilling equipment to retrieve core samples of seafloor sediment thousands of meters below. Aboard …

Assessing HyperSight iterative CBCT for dose calculation in online adaptive radiotherapy for pelvis and breast patients compared to synthetic CT

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose/objectives Recent technological advancements have increased efficiency for clinical deliverability of online‐adaptive‐radiotherapy (oART). Previous cone‐beam‐computed‐tomography (CBCT) generations lacked the ability to provide reliable Hounsfield‐units (HU), thus requiring oART workflows to rely on synthetic‐CT (sCT) images derived ...

Evaluating the use of diagnostic CT with flattening filter free beams for palliative radiotherapy: Dosimetric impact of scanner calibration variability

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Palliative radiotherapy comprises a significant portion of the radiation treatment workload. Volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) improves dose conformity and, in conjunction with flattening filter free (FFF) delivery, can decrease treatment times, both of which are desirable in a population with a high probability of retreatment ...

Premiminary tests on modified clays for electrolyte contaminated drilling fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The quality of a bentonite suspension declines in aggressive systems like brackish or saline pore water. An engineered clay (HYPER clay) was developed for sealing materials with enhanced resistance to aggressive conditions.

Impact of acceleration treatment on treatment plan and delivery qualities in tomotherapy for lung cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Acceleration treatment (AT) is a novel treatment planning parameter introduced in the tomotherapy‐dedicated treatment planning system, Precision. This study explores the effects of AT on tomotherapy plans using helical (TomoHelical) and direct (TomoDirect) irradiation techniques.

Semi-Supervised Approach for Early Stuck Sign Detection in Drilling Operations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A real-time stuck pipe prediction methodology is proposed in this paper. We assume early signs of stuck pipe to be apparent when the drilling data behavior deviates from that from normal drilling operations. The definition of normalcy changes with drill string configuration or geological conditions.
