Robust pH Sensing Using a Graphene Oxide and Covalent Organic Frameworks Composite for Gastro‐esophageal Reflux Disease Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A stable composite pH sensor is developed by coating graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets with covalent organic frameworks (COFs) to improve stability and sensitivity in acidic environments. The GO/COFs sensor demonstrates high selectivity, linearity, and biocompatibility, offering a promising strategy for continuous pH monitoring in gastro‐esophageal reflux

Using temporary water to resupply fresh water (on example Kanaka SCC) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In boarding houses, located at the mouth of the Kanaka beam (SCC), the problem of provision with fresh drinking water worsened. So far, the provision with drinking water was carried out with water wells from the aquifer at a depth of up to 15

Oxidation of Cr(III)-Fe(III) Mixed-Phase Hydroxides by Chlorine: Implications on the Control of Hexavalent Chromium in Drinking Water. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The occurrence of chromium (Cr) as an inorganic contaminant in drinking water is widely reported. One source of Cr is its accumulation in iron-containing corrosion scales of drinking water distribution systems as Cr(III)-Fe(III) hydroxide, that is, Fe ...

Advancing from MOFs and COFs to Functional Macroscopic Porous Constructs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review study investigates the recent progress and methodologies for manufacturing metal–organic framework (MOF) or covalent–organic framework (COF)‐based 3D structured macroscopic porous constructs with high structural integrity, providing the possibility to control their porosity across dimensions.

Risks deter but pleasures allure: Is pleasure more important?

open access: yesJudgment and Decision Making, 2015
The pursuit of unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking or binge drinking, not only carries various downside risks, but also provides pleasure. A parsimonious model, used in the literature to explain the decision to pursue an unhealthy activity, represents ...

Targeted monitoring for human pharmaceuticals in vulnerable source and final waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A range of pharmaceuticals has been detected in soils, surface waters and groundwaters across the world. While the reported concentrations are generally low (i.e. sub μg l-1 in surface waters), the substances have been observed throughout the year across

Rational Design of Metal–Organic Frameworks for Pancreatic Cancer Therapy: from Machine Learning Screening to In Vivo Efficacy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the MOF landscape to select a single, optimal candidate for successfully delivering cancer drugs (gemcitabine, paclitaxel, SN‐38) into tough pancreatic tumors. Machine learning and simulations guide this search, demonstrating colloidal stability, excellent biocompatibility, cellular uptake, and sustained release.
