Liver transplantation for alcoholic liver disease: a retrospective analysis of recidivism, survival and risk factors predisposing to alcohol relapse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background and study aims : Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is the second most common indication for liver transplantation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the alcohol relapse rate and long-term survival after liver transplantation for ALD and to ...

Unassisted Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production Coupled with Selective Glucose Oxidation Using Metal Halide Perovskite Photoanodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A metal halide perovskite‐based photoanode integrated with a CoNiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) cocatalyst is reported for selective glucose oxidation reaction (GOR), achieving simultaneous and unassisted photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. This system delivers high photocurrent density, excellent Faradaic efficiency of GOR, and strong techno ...

Endocytic Programming via Porous Silicon Nanoparticles Enhances TLR4 Nanoagonist Potency for Macrophage‐Mediated Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Porous silicon nanoparticles (PSiNPs) reprogram macrophage endocytosis of manganese@albumin‐based TLR4 nanoagonists, driving TRIF‐biased TLR4 signaling, eliciting robust proinflammatory responses, and potentiating macrophage‐mediated immunotherapeutic effects against NSCLC.

Serotonin2C receptors in the nucleus accumbens are involved in enhanced alcohol-drinking behavior

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, 2012
Dopamine and serotonin (5‐HT) in the nucleus accumbens (ACC) and ventral tegmental area of the mesoaccumbens reward pathways have been implicated in the mechanisms underlying development of alcohol dependence.

Dual‐Nanoparticle Engineered Hydrogel Reverses Bicellular Oxidative Stress to Accelerate Diabetic Fracture Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CD105‐LNPs and PS‐LNPs can deliver α‐lipoic acid to bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and bone marrow‐derived macrophages, reversing high glucose‐induced oxidative stress while enhancing osteogenesis and M2 polarization. Integrating both nanoparticles into glucose‐responsive hyaluronic acid hydrogel forms DLNPs@HA hydrogel, which accelerates diabetic ...

Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Behavior-associated and post-consumption glucose entry into the nucleus accumbens extracellular space during glucose free-drinking in trained rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2015
Glucose is the primary energetic substrate for the metabolic activity of brain cells and its proper delivery from the arterial blood is essential for neural activity and normal brain functions.
