Targeting Adipose Tissue Function Protects Against Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the role adipose tissue (AT) phenotypes have in determining cardiovascular outcomes in an obesity‐related heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) model. Pharmacological induction of thermogenesis promoted resilience to HFpEF‐induced remodeling of AT and conferred cardioprotection. Surgical and genetic models confirmed

Design of Monitoring Systems for Contaminant Detection in Water Networks Under Pipe Break-Induced Events

open access: yesSensors
Water distribution networks (WDNs) are critical infrastructure yet vulnerable to contamination, thereby threatening public health. Rapid contaminant detection through sensor systems is essential for water safety.

Modifying Glucose Metabolism Reverses Memory Defects of Alzheimer's Disease Model at Late Stages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using spatial transcriptomics, we show that ferul enanthate (SL‐ZF‐01) reverses episodic‐like memory deficits in aged, but not young, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) mice. SL restores glucose metabolism and Glucose Transporter 1/3 expression via an ‘Aging‐AD‐Rescue’ pattern, rescuing deficits seen in aged AD mice.

Investigating the Efficacy of Topological Methods for Optimal Sensor Placement in Water Distribution Systems

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Water-distribution networks (WDNs) are vital infrastructure that are exposed to the risk of contamination. Several factors contribute to this risk, including insufficient pressure, contamination in water storage tanks and more. Sensor systems are crucial

Perfluorooctanoic Acid Exposure Causes Macrophage Ammonia Retention and Induces Spontaneous Miscarriages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PFOA exposure induces pregnancy loss by promoting glutaminolysis, which further causes ammonia accumulation in macrophages. Cellular ammonia retention results in damage to mitochondria and lysosomes, which leads to cell death eventually. Impaired lysosomes also decrease the secretion of the Cathepsin B (CTSB), and attenuate macrophage infiltration and ...

Metering gun for dispensing precisely measured charges of fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
A cyclically operable fluid dispenser for use in dispensing precisely measured charges of potable water aboard spacecraft is described. The dispenser is characterized by (1) a sealed housing adapted to be held within a crewman's palm and coupled with a ...
