Carbon Footprint: A New Farm Management Consideration in the Southern High Plains [PDF]

open access: yes
As concerns continue to mount regarding man induced impacts to the global climate, the SHPT region could be faced with a unique scenario in which the net carbon balance should be considered in the producer’s enterprise selection and production systems ...

Efficacy evaluation of pneumatic solid set canopy delivery system to control powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator) in Washington vineyards

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4815-4828, May 2026.
The findings of this study indicate that powdery mildew control achieved with the pneumatic solid set canopy delivery system (PSD‐SSCDS) was comparable with that of a conventional airblast sprayer. These results highlight the PSD‐SSCDS as a promising alternative spray technology. Abstract BACKGROUND In this study, a previously optimized pneumatic spray

Research on soil quality evaluation in an impermeable saline‐sodic soil with drip irrigation under cropping of Lycium barbarum L.

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Quantitatively assessing the soil quality (SQ) of saline sodic soil is essential to understand the effects of improving methods and assistance for screening on efficient technologies. The objective of this study was to develop saline‐sodic SQ indices and evaluate the continuation of drip irrigation under film with salt‐enduring plant ...

Enhancing the vase life of cut roses through spectral optimisation during greenhouse cultivation

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 3, Page 656-673, May 2026.
Here, we examined three red‐to‐blue (R:B) light emitting diode (LED) ratios (90:10, 80:20 and 70:30) in two cut rose cultivars. All treatments enhanced photosynthesis, with 90:10 showing the strongest effects—raising chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and carbohydrate levels, and extending vase life by up to 30%.

Sugarcane nutrition under organomineral fertilizer, phosphate‐solubilizing bacteria, and reduced phosphate doses

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 3, Page 815-831, May 2026.
Sugarcane phosphorus (P) availability is limited in tropical soils, requiring strategies to improve fertilizer efficiency. This study evaluated Bacillus velezensis UFV 3918 (Bv) in combination with an organomineral fertilizer (OF) at reduced monoammonium phosphate (MAP) doses. It showed that Bv + OF + 1/3 MAP achieved soil and plant P levels comparable

Peasants into Muslims: Poverty and conversions to Islam in Ottoman Bosnia

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 600-633, May 2026.
Abstract Whilst economic historians have invested substantial effort into understanding the economic consequences of religion, they have invested less effort into understanding the determinants of religious affiliation. The lack of knowledge about determinants of religious affiliation seems particularly striking in the case of Southeastern Europe ...
