Collapse analysis and robustness assessment of dropped-story steel frame structures based on structural vulnerability theory

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
This paper proposes an improved analysis method based on the theory of structural vulnerability, which incorporates structural redundancy and comprehensively analyzes structural vulnerability and robustness by considering the changes in structural stiffness and redundancy after damage to structural members under conventional loading.

Dual‐Ligand Metal‐Organic Frameworks via In Situ Amidoxime Engineering for Selective Ion Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by microbial ion‐trapping mechanisms, a mild and universal strategy is developed to construct highly porous amidoxime‐functionalized MOFs. DFT calculations and molecular force measurements reveal that the dual‐ligand amidoxime configuration significantly strengthens Ga(III) affinity.

Gourd‐Inspired Design of Unit Cell with Multiple Gradients for Physiological‐Range Pressure Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gourd‐shaped micro‐dome arrays with coordinated modulus, conductivity, and geometric gradients co‐optimize sensitivity and linearity in piezoresistive tactile sensors. Under pressure, a solid upper dome embeds into a porous lower dome, triggering rapid contact‐area growth and series‐to‐parallel conduction, enabling unsaturated, intensity‐resolved ...

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Analysis of Dynamic Load Tests on Reinforced Foundations Under the Influence of Karst Soil Cavity Collapse

open access: yesBuildings
Karst soil caves are prone to induce insufficient bearing capacity and excessive settlement of engineering foundations, which in turn trigger sudden ground surface collapse. In this study, multi-stage cyclic loads were designed to simulate traffic loads,

Overcoming Debye Length Limitations in Electrolyte‐Gated Transistor Biosensors Using Nanoscale‐Grooved Oxide Semiconductors Fabricated by Thermal Nanoimprint Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale‐grooved indium gallium oxide (IGO) semiconductors, patterned via thermal nanoimprint lithography (NIL) using CD/DVD templates, are integrated into electrolyte‐gated transistor biosensors to overcome Debye length limitations. Precisely engineered concave–convex nanostructures modulate local electrostatic potentials, extend the effective Debye ...

“Take these broken links” : Twitter, the Q-drops and the collapse of a digital ecosystem

open access: yes, 2022
This poster is providing further explanations to the poster bearing the same name. The goal is to analyze the quality of links within the Q-drop canon, in this investigation with focus on the links to the microblog Twitter.com. Links to Twitter were harvested from the Q-drops and assessed individually regarding whether they were still existing or dead.

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.
