Hot Spot Formation in Mock Materials in Impact Sensitivity Testing by Drop Hammer

Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 2017
AbstractPowder and granulated sugars were exposed to the drop hammer impact test configured with 120‐ and 180‐grit Si/C sandpapers. The sugars were selected as mock materials for HMX (Octahydro‐1,3,5,7‐tetranitro‐1,3,5,7‐tetrazocine). The drop heights ranged from 24.2 to 40.7 cm.

Drop hammer tests of Scandinavian harness racetracks

Equine Veterinary Journal, 1994
Summary Drop tests were carried out on 8 Scandinavian harness racetracks in order to evaluate their shock force attenuation properties. A drop hammer model was designed to simulate the hoof strike of the horse.

Large-scale penetration test using a drop hammer

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 1997
In the present study, large-scale penetration tests using a wedge-type drop hammer were performed. The primary objective was to determine the penetration curve in a large-scale test. The force-penetration curve is well known to be approximately linear in small-scale tests.

Improvement of Drop-Hammer Compression Test for Rubber Material

Materials Science Forum, 2011
The drop-hammer compression testing method where the stroke is calculated by solving the equation of motions of the drop-hammer and anvil was improved in order to determine the strain-rate dependence of the elastic modulus of rubber material. An additional tool for interrupting the compression was embedded in the apparatus.

Multiple Reference Impact Testing for Bridge Assessment with Drop Hammer

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
A new drop hammer was designed and used for multiple reference impact testing of two bridges. The drop hammer utilizes a multiple-rebound control system for successfully applying a single impact with repeatable high-level force for bridge testing. Signal analysis results indicate that the drop hammer provides a higher signal-noise ratio and a better ...

The evolution of dynamic energy during drop hammer testing of Brazilian disk with non-persistent joints: An extensive experimental investigation

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2022
Abstract Rock mass is well known as a discontinuous, heterogeneous, and anisotropic material. The behavior and strength of rock mass is heavily controlled by the condition and orientation of discontinuities (faults, joints, bedding planes) and discontinuity sets. Under dynamic loading conditions, rock bridges along non-persistent discontinuity planes
