The drop jump is a popular form of plyometric exercise often undertaken to enhance countermovement jump ability (jump height). Despite its popularity the effects of drop jump training on countermovement jump height are often inconsistent. Such inconsistencies may be as a result of differences in the drop jump technique being employed.

The effects of drop vertical jump technique on landing and jumping kinetics and jump performance
Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2021The drop vertical jump is a popular plyometric exercise. Two distinct techniques are commonly used to initiate the drop vertical jump. With the 'step-off' technique, athletes step off a raised platform with their dominant limb, while their non-dominant limb remains on the platform.

Drop jumping. II. The influence of dropping height on the biomechanics of drop jumping
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1987In the literature, athletes preparing for explosive activities are recommended to include drop jumping in their training programs. For the execution of drop jumps, different techniques and different dropping heights can be used. This study was designed to investigate for the performance of bounce drop jumps the influence of dropping height on the ...

Relationship Between Lower Body Strength, Countermovement Jump Height, and Optimal Drop Jump Drop Height [PDF]
The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between back squat one-repetition maximum relative to body mass (1RMrel), countermovement jump height (CMJH), and optimal drop height in drop jump (DHopt).

Drop Jumping as a Training Method for Jumping Ability
Sports Medicine, 1990Vertical jumping ability is of importance for good performance in sports such as basketball and volleyball. Coaches are in need of exercises that consume only little time and still help to improve their players' jumping ability, without involving a high risk of injury. Drop jumping is assumed to satisfy these requirements.

Hydroulic jump at an abrupt drop
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 2020ABSTRACTHYDRAULIC JUMP AT AN ABRUPT DROP GÜR, Zerrin M.S. in Civil Engineering Supervisor: Assl. Prof. Dr. Nuray (DENLİ) TOKYAY February 19 88, 102 pages At an abrupt drop hydraulic jump occurs in three different forms, depending on upstream Froude number, the relative magnitudes of the tailwater depth and drop height with respect to `inUal depth of ...

Biomechanical analysis of drop and countermovement jumps
European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1986For 13 subjects the performance of drop jumps from a height of 40 cm (DJ) and of countermovement jumps (CMJ) was analysed and compared. From force plate and cine data biomechanical variables including forces, moments, power output and amount of work done were calculated for hip, knee and ankle joints.

The Hydraulic Jump at an Abrupt Drop
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1957Hydraulic jump may form at various locations relative to low abrupt drop in rectangular channel; role of drop in determining form of jump and in stabilizing its position is clarified by analysis and experiment; example illustrates application of results to analysis of stilling basin.
