Jumping drops on the surface of the water

Multiphase Systems, 2020
The paper proposes a theoretical model for the bouncing of a water drop on a free surface. The motion of a drop in air is described by the usual equations connecting the forces of inertia, gravity, and Stokes (viscosity resistance). The drop is considered spherical with a given surface tension.

Effects of Assisted and Traditional Drop Jumps on Jumping Performance

International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, 2014
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of assisted and traditional drop jumps on fast stretch-shortening cycle exercises in collegiate athletes. Participants were selected into one of three groups: 1) the assisted drop jump ( n=11); the traditional drop jump ( n=11); and 3) the control ( n=11).

Spinal shrinkage in unloaded and loaded drop-jumping

Ergonomics, 1994
Plyometric activities, engaging the muscle in a stretch-shortening cycle, are widely used in athletic training. One such plyometric exercise is drop-jumping, where the athlete drops from a raised platform and immediately on landing performs a maximal vertical jump.

The Influence of Musculotendinous Stiffness on Drop Jump Performance

Canadian Journal of Applied Physiology, 1997
This study investigated the relationship between musculotendinous stiffness and the ability to perform dynamic stretch-shorten cycle actions involving a range of eccentric loads. Twenty trained male subjects performed a series of quasi-static muscular actions in a supine leg press position, during which a brief perturbation was applied.

Structural and Functional Predictors of Drop Vertical Jump

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2010
This investigation was designed to determine if relatively small manipulations of squat load and the inclusion of selected morphologic variables might augment the explained variance in vertical jump (VJ) displacement. Fifty-two university students (27 women and 25 men) with weight training experience served as subjects.

Planar jumping-drop thermal diodes

Applied Physics Letters, 2011
Phase-change thermal diodes rectify heat transport much more effectively than solid-state ones, but are limited by either the gravitational orientation or one-dimensional configuration. Here, we report a planar phase-change diode scalable to large areas with an orientation-independent diodicity of over 100, in which water/vapor is enclosed by parallel ...

A comparison of methods for analyzing drop jump performance

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1999
Drop jumping is a popular form of plyometric training. Different techniques are applied to determine parameter values quantifying drop jumps, such as the jump height or the durations of the phases of downward and upward movements of the center of mass (CM) during foot contact with the ground after dropping.
