A Maximum Entropy Modelling of the Rain Drop Size Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2011
This paper presents a maximum entropy approach to Rain Drop Size Distribution (RDSD) modelling. It is shown that this approach allows (1) to use a physically consistent rationale to select a particular probability density function (pdf) (2) to provide an

Prediction of drop size distribution and mean drop size in an L-shaped pulsed packed column using artificial neural network (ANN) model and semi-empirical correlation [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study proposes the use of artificial neural network (ANN) and semi-empirical models for predicting mean drop size and drop size distribution in an L-shaped pulsed packed extraction column under non-mass-transfer conditions, employing toluene-water ...

Measurements and Modeling of the Full Rain Drop Size Distribution

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
The raindrop size distribution (DSD) is fundamental for quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) and in numerical modeling of microphysical processes.

Drop size distribution measurements in rain — a comparison of two sizing methods

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 1996
First results of raindrop size measurements obtained by two instruments whose operation principles are basically different are presented and the necessary procedure of comparison is described.

Drop size distribution comparisons between Parsivel and 2-D video disdrometers [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2011
Measurements from a 2-D video disdrometer (2DVD) have been used for drop size distribution (DSD) comparisons with co-located Parsivel measurements in Huntsville, Alabama.

Retrieving Rain Drop Size Distribution Moments from GPM Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
A novel method for retrieving the moments of rain drop size distribution (DSD) from the dual-frequency precipitation radar (DPR) onboard the global precipitation mission satellite (GPM) is presented.

The Retrieval of Drop Size Distribution Parameters Using a Dual-Polarimetric Radar

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The raindrop size distribution (DSD) is vital for applications such as quantitative precipitation estimation, understanding microphysical processes, and validation/improvement of two-moment bulk microphysical schemes.

Parametrization of drop size distribution with rain rate [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Research, 2007
Abstract Because the rain rate R is easier to observe than the drop size distribution (DSD), it is useful to express the DSD as a function of R only, i.e. N(D,R). Disdrometer data from four sites in West Africa are used to compare observed DSDs with fitting to a lognormal function in which the three parameters Xi, with i = 1, 2, 3, are expressed as ...

ROTARY ATOMIZER DROP SIZE DISTRIBUTION DATABASE [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the ASAE, 2005
Wind tunnel measurements of drop Size distributions from Micronair A U4000 and A U5000 rotary atomizers were collected to develop a database for model use. The measurements varied tank mix, flow rate, air speed, and blade angle conditions, which were correlated by multiple regressions (average R-2 = 0.995 for A U4000 and 0.988 for AU5000).
