Dissolution dynamics of a vertically confined sessile droplet [PDF]
We experimentally investigate the dissolution of microscale sessile alcohol droplets in water under the influence of impermeable vertical confinement. The introduction of confinement suppresses the mass transport from the droplet to bulk medium in comparison with the nonconfined counterpart.

Axial Collective Mode of a Dipolar Quantum Droplet
In this work, we investigate the ground state properties and collective excitations of a dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate that self-binds into a quantum droplet, stabilized by quantum fluctuations.

Vortex lattices in strongly confined quantum droplets
Bose mixture quantum droplets display a fascinating stability that relies on quantum fluctuations to prevent collapse driven by mean-field effects. Most droplet research focuses on untrapped or weakly trapped scenarios, where the droplets exhibit a liquid-like flat density profile.

Gas–droplet–liquid transitions and fluctuations in soft nano-confinement
One permanent characteristic of the thermodynamics of small systems is environment-dependence, also known as ensemble-dependence. Fluid molecules in soft (deformable) nano-confinement offer a special ensemble that acts as a bridge between classical ...

Laser Processing of Liquid Crystal Droplets with Diverse Internal Structures
To control the spatial placement and organize micro/nanodroplets (NDs) has fundamental importance both in science and engineering. Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) droplets with topological diversity can offer many self-assembly modalities to arrange ...

Crowding and confinement act in concert to slow DNA diffusion within cell-sized droplets
Summary: Dynamics of biological macromolecules, such as DNA, in crowded and confined environments are critical to understanding cellular processes such as transcription, infection, and replication.

Manipulating droplet dynamics is of great importance in condensation heat transfer enhancement. Cavity topography was believed to be able to regulate droplet merging and self-removal via Laplace force imbalance by the cavity wall and the effect of ...

Activity-induced droplet propulsion and multifractality
We elucidate the crucial role that confinement plays in collective and emergent behaviors in active- or living-matter systems by developing a minimal hydrodynamic model, without an orientational order parameter, for assemblies of contractile swimmers ...

Droplet to soliton crossover at negative temperature in presence of bi-periodic optical lattices
It is shown that the phenomenon of negative temperature essentially occurs in Bose-Einstein condensate due to the realization of the upper bound energy state utilizing a combination of expulsive harmonic oscillator and optical lattice potentials.

Effect of Transverse Confinement on a Quasi-One-Dimensional Dipolar Bose Gas
We study a gas of bosonic dipolar atoms in the presence of a transverse harmonic trapping potential by using an improved variational Bethe ansatz, which includes the transverse width of the atomic cloud as a variational parameter.
