Quantum‐Confined Electron–Hole Droplets
physica status solidi (b), 1992AbstractThe liquid phase of quantum‐confined electron–hole plasma is observed in a type‐II GaAs/AlAs short‐period quantum‐well wire superlattice grown on a high‐index (311) GaAs substrate surface. This superlattice system is the first low‐dimensional structure to support the condensation of electron–hole droplets as is evidenced by the characteristic ...

On the lifetime of evaporating confined sessile droplets
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2019Abstract Confinement effects may trigger certain non-trivial characteristics of droplet evaporation, which may incur far-reaching implications in practical scenarios. In effect, the vapor mediated interactions in a confined droplet may alter its intrinsic evaporation characteristics altogether, primarily as a consequence of significant increase in ...

Surface-tension-confined droplet microfluidics
Chinese Physics B, 2018This article is a concise overview about the developing microfluidic systems named surface-tension-confined droplet microfluidics (STORMs). Different from traditional complexed droplet microfluidics which generated and confined the droplets by three-dimensional (3D) poly(dimethylsiloxane)-based microchannels, STORM systems provide two-dimensional (2D ...

Confinement Effects in Droplet Formation on a Solid Particle
LangmuirFormation of a droplet around a spherical solid particle in supersaturated vapor is considered. The number and stability of equilibrium solutions in a closed small system are studied in the canonical ensemble in comparison to an open system in the grand canonical ensemble. Depending on the system's parameters, two modes exist in the canonical ensemble:

The effects of confinement and inertia on the production of droplets
Rheologica Acta, 2006Recent experiments of Sibillo et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 97:054502, (2006) investigate the effect of walls on flow-induced drop deformation for Stokes flow. The drop and the fluid in which it is suspended have the same viscosities. The capillary numbers vary from 0.4 to 0.46.

Phase Transitions in Confined Gallium Droplets
Physical Review Letters, 1998Phase transitions in submicrometric Ga droplets confined in epoxy resin are studied by combining energy-dispersive x-ray diffraction (EDXRD), x-ray absorption fine structure, and single-energy x-ray absorption. The restricted fluid is undercooled down to 150 K while the melting point is depressed down to 254 K.

Controlled Writhing of Chiral Matter in Deformable Droplet Confinement
Journal of the American Chemical SocietyChirality─the property of being nonsuperimposable on its mirror image─plays a fundamental role in shaping how materials interact with light, molecules, and external fields. This property is key to advancements in areas such as quantum computing, flexible electronics, and smart sensors.
