Droplet formation in a T-shaped microfluidic junction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Using a phase-field model to describe fluid/fluid interfacial dynamics and a lattice Boltzmann model to address hydrodynamics, two dimensional (2D) numerical simulations have been performed to understand the mechanisms of droplet formation in ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Investigation of critical response characteristics of micro-droplets under the action of low-frequency acoustic waves

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
For the droplets with different size distribution, reasonably selecting the frequency and period of acoustic waves are of great significance to acoustic agglomeration.

Snap-off production of monodisperse droplets

open access: yes, 2015
We introduce a novel technique to produce monodisperse droplets through the snap-off mechanism. The methodology is simple, versatile, and requires no specialized or expensive components.

Universal Periods in Quantum Hall Droplets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using the hierarchy picture of the fractional quantum Hall effect, we study the ground-state periodicity of a finite size quantum Hall droplet in a quantum Hall fluid of a different filling factor.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Numerical Study on the Effect of Temperature on Droplet Formation inside the Microfluidic Chip

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2019
The flow-focusing method is a technology for microfluidic droplet control, and the temperature can effect on the droplet formation. In this study, the droplet formation in the flow-focusing method during the squeezing of dispersed phase by the continuous

Influence of Turbulent Fluctuations on Cloud Droplet Size Dispersion and Aerosol Indirect Effects.

open access: yesJournal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 2018
Cloud droplet relative dispersion, defined as the standard deviation over the mean cloud droplet size, is of central importance in determining and understanding aerosol indirect effects.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.
