The effect of droplet size on syntrophic dynamics in droplet-enabled microbial co-cultivation.
Co-cultivation in microfluidic droplets has emerged as a versatile tool for the study of natural and synthetic microbial communities. In particular, the identification and characterization of syntrophic interactions in these communities is attracting ...

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Adiabatic Evolution of Cloud Droplet Spectral Width: A New Look at an Old Problem
Spectral width of the cloud droplet spectrum is important for radiative properties and drizzle/rain development in warm ice‐free clouds. We use an adiabatic rising parcel model to study activation and diffusional growth of cloud droplets, focusing on the

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
