Molecular phylogeny of the subgenus Sophophora of Drosophila derived from large subunit of ribosomal RNA sequences

Genetica, 1991
RNA sequencing has been used to assess the relationships among species of the subgenus Sophophora of the genus Drosophila. Two divergent domains, D1 and D2, of the large ribosomal RNA (28S), totalling 550 nucleotides have been sequenced using the rRNA direct sequencing method.

Mating Success in the Drosophila Victoria Species Group, Subgenus Pholadoris (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

The American Naturalist, 1963
Sexual isolation was found to be weak in four members of the victoria group, three of which are isolated by hybrid mortality. The difference in mating success between D. l. lebanonensis and D. l. casteeli, which are widely separated geographically, is mainly one of propensity; the reciprocal heterogamic matings between these subspecies resulting in a ...

Comparative mapping of cosmids and gene clones from a 1.6 Mb chromosomal region of Drosophila melanogaster in three species of the distantly related subgenus Drosophila

Chromosoma, 1999
The successful hybridization of cosmid clones from Drosophila melanogaster (Sophophora subgenus) to the salivary gland chromosomes of other species as distantly related as those in the Drosophila subgenus attests their great potential for unravelling genome evolution. We have carried out, using 28 cosmids and 13 gene clones, a study of the organization

Sequences homologous to the P mobile element of Drosophila melanogaster are widely distributed in the subgenus Sophophora

open access: closedNature, 1985
The biological properties of the P element of Drosophila melanogaster differ from those of other mobile elements in this genus in that its mobility is associated with dysgenic traits that might be expected to limit its distribution or spread1. The P element is widely distributed among natural populations of D.

Phylogenetic Position of the Subgenus Lordiphosa of the Genus Drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) Inferred from Alcohol Dehydrogenase (Adh) Gene Sequences

Journal of Molecular Evolution, 2000
We analyzed the phylogenetic relationship between the species of Lordiphosa and other Drosophilidae using alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) gene sequences. The phylogenetic trees consistently show that the four species Drosophila kurokawai, D. collinella, D. stackelbergi, and D.

Molecular phylogeny of the subgenus Drosophila (Diptera, Drosophilidae) with an emphasis on Neotropical species and groups: A nuclear versus mitochondrial gene approach

open access: closedMolecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2005
The genus Drosophila has played an essential role in many biological studies during the last 100 years but much controversy and many incompletely addressed issues still remain to be elucidated regarding the phylogeny of this genus. Because information on the Neotropical species contained in the subgenus Drosophila is particularly incomplete, with this ...

Description of a new species of the subgenus Hirtodrosophila (Drosophila: Drosophilidae: Diptera: Insecta) from Chandigarh, India

Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1974
A new species belonging to the subgenus Hirtodrosophila of the genus Drosophila is described from Chandigarh, India. The relationship, based on the morphology, periphallic organs and phallic organs, at the subgeneric and generic levels is discussed in detail.
