Transcriptome analysis of historic olives reveals stress-specific biomarkers

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionWater scarcity and soil salinization are increasingly becoming limiting factors in food production, including olives, a major fruit crop in several parts of the world.

Allelic diversity at orthologous candidate genes for drought tolerance in cereal crops: Example of the ASR gene family [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Drought is a major abiotic stress. Many candidate genes have been proposed during the last years to explain aspects of tolerance to drought stress, for a specific crop and in a specific environment.

Legume Nitrogen Utilization Under Drought Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Legumes account for around 27% of the world’s primary crop production and can be classified based on their use and traits into grain and forage legumes. Legumes can establish symbiosis with N-fixing soil bacteria. As a result, a new organ is formed, the nodule, where the reduction of atmospheric N2 into ammonia is carried out catalyzed by the bacterial

Chitosan‐Carbon Dot Composite Materials Form a Leaf Surface Barrier to Mitigate the Enrichment and Invasion of Nanoplastics: From Leaf Interface to Systemic Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Foliar spraying of CS‐CDs can form a film on the leaves of Brassica rapa, effectively reducing the enrichment and absorption of PS in the leaves, while increasing the biomass and nutrient content of the plants. In addition, CS‐CDs can also enrich the interfoliar microbial community and activate the plant's own defense metabolic pathways.

Biomarker genes for model-based prediction of drought-stress perception levels in rice

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Drought is a global challenge that severely restricts crop yields and threatens food security. Plants respond to drought stress by modulating gene expression before visible phenotypic changes occur.

Effects of Drought, Heat and Their Interaction on the Growth, Yield and Photosynthetic Function of Lentil (Lens culinaris Medikus) Genotypes Varying in Heat and Drought Sensitivity

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Rising temperatures and drought stress limit the growth and production potential of lentil (Lens culinaris Medikus), particularly during reproductive growth and seed filling.

Kenyan Farmers' Policy Priorities During Economic Crisis and Stability: Insights From a Best‐Worst Scaling Experiment

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amid rising food and fertilizer prices, understanding farmers' policy preferences is critical for effective crisis response. We use best‐worst scaling experiment to assess Kenyan mobile‐owning crop farmers' preferences for government support under high and normal price scenarios.

Identification and functional analyses of drought stress resistance genes by transcriptomics of the Mongolian grassland plant Chloris virgata

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Mongolian grasslands, including the Gobi Desert, have been exposed to drought conditions with few rains. In such harsh environments, plants with highly resistant abilities against drought stress survive over long periods.

Effects of Drought Stress Induced by Hypertonic Polyethylene Glycol (PEG-6000) on Passiflora edulis Sims Physiological Properties

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Passion fruit is known to be sensitive to drought, and in order to study the physiological and biochemical changes that occur in passion fruit seedlings under drought stress, a hypertonic polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) was ...

Transcriptomic analysis of field-droughted sorghum from seedling to maturity reveals biotic and metabolic responses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Drought is the most important environmental stress limiting crop yields. The C4 cereal sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a critical food, forage, and emerging bioenergy crop that is notably drought-tolerant.
