Regulating Uniform Zinc Deposition via Covalently Tethered Imidazolium Cations in Polyacrylamide Hydrogel Electrolytes for Stable Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A positively charged polyionic liquid hydrogel electrolyte is developed for highly stable aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. Imidazolium cations anchored on the polymer framework create a dynamic electrostatic shield at the anode interface. This active layer effectively repels water molecules and guides uniform zinc deposition, thereby suppressing dendrite ...

On the futility of the Fuoss-Kirkwood relation

open access: yesElectrochemistry Communications
The Fuoss-Kirkwood (FK) relation is used to derive analytical expressions for the distribution of uncorrelated relaxation times (DRT), particularly of probed biochemical and electrochemical systems, often without scrutiny.

Reconstructing Solvation Structure via Strongly Nucleophilic Anions for High‐Rate and Low‐Temperature Graphite||LFP Pouch Cells in PC‐Based Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A nucleophilic‐anion‐regulated solvation strategy is developed for Propylene carbonate (PC)‐based electrolytes, where NO3−${\mathrm{NO}}_3^ - $ preferentially enters the Li+ solvation sheath and replaces coordinated PC molecules without sacrificing ionic conductivity.

Caging Polyhalide Anions in Polycyclodextrin for Long‐Lasting Aqueous Zinc‐Iodine Batteries

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We demonstrated poly(β‐cyclodextrin) gel as an ideal host material that effectively contains and releases polyhalide anions in aqueous zinc‐iodine batteries. Such a unique host‐guest chemistry prevents the shuttle effect of polyhalides. The corresponding batteries can operate via both 2e and 4e storage, attaining 60,000 cycles with more than 99% and 85%

Reveal Non‐Uniform Passivation on Lithium Metal Anode With Operando Spectroscopic Ellipsometry

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
In‐operando spectroscopic ellipsometry reveals how nucleation and crystallographic orientation govern the non‐uniform growth of native passivation films on lithium metal. Time‐resolved thickness mapping captures island formation and coalescence, while orientation‐dependent measurements show that the equilibrium film on Li(110) is approximately half as ...

Enabling Fast Charging of Lithium‐Ion Batteries With Regioisomeric Nitrile Additives for Interphase Regulation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Fast charging and low‐temperature operation of lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) are achieved by incorporating only 0.5 wt.% of a nitrile‐based additive into the commercial LP57 electrolyte. The additive enhances Li+ transport, stabilizes the solid‐electrolyte and cathode‐electrolyte interphases (SEI and CEI), and suppresses lithium plating.

Chemomechanically Adaptive MXene–Si–Ag Dual‐Seed Interlayer Enabling Low‐Pressure Sulfide all‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Interfacial chemo‐mechanical instability limits stable operation of sulfide‐based all‐solid‐state batteries under low stack pressure. Here, a chemomechanically adaptive MXene–Si–Ag dual‐seed interlayer integrates immobile and mobile lithiophilic sites within a mechanically compliant MXene framework, regulating Li‐ion flux, stabilizing solid–solid ...

Nanocrystalline LCO/LLZO Composite Cathode Films for Solid State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A single precursor solution is solution‐deposited and calcined at only 750°C to yield a dense, nanograined LiCoO2/LLZO composite cathode, in which both phases crystallize independently with minimal interdiffusion. Assembled into all‐solid‐state Li‐metal batteries, the composite delivers 111.7 mAh g−1 initial discharge capacity and retains 93% after 100

Reinforcing Particle Architectural Stability of Li‐Rich Cathode With Enhanced Anionic Redox Reaction Reversibility

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this work, we establish a direct correlation between internal compactness and particle architectural stability, identifying it as a key descriptor of cathode structural integrity. Simultaneously, the capacity contribution and compensation mechanism of ARR are resolved, revealing that the extent of irreversible capacity loss is governed by both the ...
