Zero‐Contrast Versus Contrast‐Guided Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion: A Comparative Analysis of Procedural and Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
Zero‐contrast left atrial appendage occlusion yielded high procedural success and similar periprocedural adverse event rates compared to the contrast‐guided approach. At 45‐day follow‐up, successful LAA closure (defined as peri‐device leak ≤ 5 mm) and device‐related thrombus rates were similar.

Temporal Trends in Post‐LAAO Surveillance Imaging: Increasing Adoption of CT‐Based Follow‐Up in Contemporary Practice

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Surveillance imaging after left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is recommended to evaluate for peri‐device leak and device‐related thrombus, with both transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardiac computed tomography (CT) considered appropriate modalities.

Cross‐Sectional Studies: Strengths, Limitations, and Methodological Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Cross‐sectional studies measure variables at a single time point to estimate prevalence and support descriptive epidemiology ‐ characterizing population health, tracking trends via repeated surveys – and for developing and validating screening instruments and diagnostic models.

Target Trial Emulation in Observational Research—Strengths, Limitations, and Methodological Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
The target trial framework is a pragmatic roadmap for observational causal inference that clarifies questions, mitigates time‐related bias, and improves interpretability while acknowledging limits. With transparent protocols, appropriate methods, and suitable data, it can complement randomized trials and inform practice and policy.
