Metabolic insights of lactic acid bacteria in reducing off-flavors and antinutrients in plant-based fermented dairy alternatives. [PDF]
Abstract Multiple sensorial, technological, and nutritional challenges must be overcome when developing plant‐based fermented dairy alternatives (PBFDA) to mimic their dairy counterparts. The elimination of plant‐derived off‐flavors (green, earthy, bitter, astringent) and the degradation of antinutrients are crucial quality factors highlighted by the ...

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Floral traits are assumed to be the main determinants of plant's pollinator spectrum, yet a majority of temperate plant species possess traits allowing to a certain degree of generalisation of their pollinator spectrum.

Marcescence extends PES trait effects on ecosystems, particularly in immature habitats, being a common but overlooked phenomenon of the temperate flora. Abstract The plant economics spectrum (PES) drives nutrient cycling through effects on soil decomposers.

Sowing of regionally specific seed mixtures was successful and demonstrated to be a fast way of grassland restoration, particularly in terms of functional trait composition. The resulting species diversity depended on the colonisation processes, which are controlled by the functional composition of the already established communities.

Plant–soil feedbacks in a diverse grassland: Soil remembers, but not too much
The authors showed that plant‐induced soil legacies of a dominant species can be altered by legacies of co‐occurring plants, complicating plant–soil feedbacks in diverse communities. Despite the detectable legacy effects on final plant biomass, in the short term, plant growth responds more strongly to the levels of available nutrients.
