Drugs account for about 20% of gynecomastia cases in men. As a number of factors can alter the estrogen:androgen ratio, several pathophysiologic mechanisms are associated with drugs causing this disorder. Antiandrogens, protease inhibitors, and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors are the most common drug causes of gynecomastia, whereas first ...

INTRODUCTION The aim of this chapter is to review the dystonias related to drugs with an emphasis on phenomenology and management. Although epidemiology data are lacking, it is probable that levodopa-induced dystonia in patients with Parkinson's disease is the most common form of drug-induced dystonia seen by movement disorder specialists.

Medical research is simpler and generally more productive when it becomes possible to use models. This experimental method is available to psychiatrists who find that certain chemicals called hallucinogens (13) produce in subjects experiences which resemble those described by patients who now have schizophrenia or by those who have recovered. Lewin (19)

DIV is a relatively common cause of inflammatory vasculitis. Drugs from almost every pharmacologic class have been implicated in causing vasculitis in sporadic cases. The level of certainty and quality of evidence for these associations between specific agents and vasculitis vary greatly.

Two major entities continue to be controversial in the field of clinical myotoxicity: the various myopathies that are induced by the cholesterol-lowering agents and the acute quadriplegic myopathy of intensive care. Both conditions are relatively common, but their pathogenesis is unclear. The problematic issues related to these disorders are presented,

Many drugs have been reported to have caused anaemia. The most serious form involves marrow aplasia, but the way in which this is produced is not understood. A number of drugs lead to megaloblastic anaemia and where this is caused by interference with dihydrofolate reductase the explanation is obvious. However, some substances, notably anticonvulsants,
