Generation of enterocyte-like cells from human induced pluripotent stem cells for drug absorption and metabolism studies in human small intestine

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Enterocytes play an important role in drug absorption and metabolism. However, a widely used enterocyte model, Caco-2 cell, has difficulty in evaluating both drug absorption and metabolism because the expression levels of some drug absorption and ...

Acacetin reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress through the P‐eNOS/PERK signaling pathway to attenuate MGO‐induced vascular endothelial cell dysfunction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated a potential protective effect of acacetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, against methylglyoxal (MGO)‐induced endothelial dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and its mechanism of action. Acacetin can could inhibit MGO‐induced intracellular calcium ion influx, enhance the expression levels of phosphorylated ...

Hydrotropic solubilization of lipophilic drugs for oral delivery: The effects of urea and nicotinamide on carbamazepine solubility-permeability interplay

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2016
Hydrotropy refers to increasing the water solubility of otherwise poorly soluble compound by the presence of small organic molecules. While it can certainly increase the apparent solubility of a lipophilic drug, the effect of hydrotropy on the drugs ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

From protein binding to pharmacokinetics: a novel approach to active drug absorption prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Due to inherent complexity active transport presents a landmark hurdle for oral absorption properties prediction. We present a novel approach carrier-mediated drug absorption parameters calculation based on entirely different paradigm than QSPR. We capitalize on recently emerged ideas that molecule activities against a large protein set can be used for

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the pharmacokinetics of benznidazole in the treatment of Chagas disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chagas disease is a neglected parasitic illness affecting approximately 8 million people, predominantly in Latin America. Benznidazole is the drug of choice for treatment, although its availability has been limited.

Adenosine A3 receptor antagonists as anti‐tumor treatment in human prostate cancer: an in vitro study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The A3 adenosine receptors (A3ARs) are overexpressed in prostate cancer. AR 292 and AR 357, as A3AR antagonists, are capable of blocking proliferation, modulating the expression of drug transporter genes involved in chemoresistance, ferroptosis, and the hypoxia response, and inducing cell death.

INTESTINAL ABSORPTION OF EPROSARTAN MESYLATE FROM SELF EMULSIFYING SYSTEM AND CYCLODEXTRIN COMPLEX [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objective: The aim of this work was to determine the intestinal membrane transport parameters of eprosartan mesylate (EM) and to investigate self-nano emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) and inclusion complexation with hydroxypropyl b cyclodextrin

In vivo absorption spectroscopy of tumor sensitizers with femtosecond white light [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A system based on a femtosecond white-light continuum and a streak camera was used for recordings of the in vivo absorption spectra of the tumor-seeking agent disulphonated aluminum phthalocyanine.
