Preventive Effect of Metformin in Radiation‐Induced Xerostomia

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Head and neck cancer patients who received radiotherapy complain of severe dry mouth due to damage to the salivary glands. Metformin is an antidiabetic drug, but its radio‐protective effect has been reported. It is confirmed that metformin protects the salivary glands from radiation and provides evidence for the use of metformin in cancer treatment in ...

SMILES-Mamba: Chemical Mamba Foundation Models for Drug ADMET Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In drug discovery, predicting the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties of small-molecule drugs is critical for ensuring safety and efficacy. However, the process of accurately predicting these properties is often resource-intensive and requires extensive experimental data.

Coacervates Composed of Low‐Molecular‐Weight Compounds– Molecular Design, Stimuli Responsiveness, Confined Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Coacervation driven by liquid‐liquid phase separation (LLPS) of biopolymers has garnered increasing attention in biology since this leads to the formation of membraneless organelles capable of performing essential yet largely unknown functions. This review highlights recent advances in coacervates (artificial condensates) composed of low‐molecular ...

Integration of Genetic Algorithms and Deep Learning for the Generation and Bioactivity Prediction of Novel Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The intersection of artificial intelligence and bioinformatics has enabled significant advancements in drug discovery, particularly through the application of machine learning models. In this study, we present a combined approach using genetic algorithms and deep learning models to address two critical aspects of drug discovery: the generation of novel

Activation of SIRT1 Reduces Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells Fibrosis in Hypoxia Through SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐Autophagy Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Toward Design Principles for Biomolecular Condensates for Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates are membrane‐less compartments found through‐out nature which can serve as reaction crucibles for biochemical processes. This review explores the design strategies underlying how condensates can be used in biotechnology to enhance multistep enzyme cascades including enhancement by mass action and substrate channeling, and ...

Effective combination of cold physical plasma and chemotherapy against Ewing sarcoma cells in vitro

open access: yesScientific Reports
Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is the second most common bone tumor in children and adolescents and is highly malignant. Although the new chemotherapy has significantly improved the survival rate for ES from about 10 to 75%, the survival rate for metastatic tumors
