Reservoir‐Type Subcutaneous Implantable Devices Containing Porous Rate Controlling Membranes for Sustained Delivery of Risperidone

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel implantable drug delivery systemwith a biodegradable poly(caprolactone) membrane and compressed drug core forsustained release. These implantable devices deliver risperidone in vitro for 170 days and in vivo for 49 days in rats, showing promise for chronic conditions like schizophrenia.

Multiscale Thermal Analysis of Gold Nanostars in 3D Tumor Spheroids: Integrating Cellular‐Level Photothermal Effects and Nanothermometry via X‐Ray Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates nanoscale temperatures generated by photoexcited gold nanostars and their correlation with microscale thermal damage at the cellular level. Using X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and confocal microscopy in 3D cancer spheroids, it assesses localized heating effects and examines tumor cell structure and integrity, offering insights ...

In Situ‐Gelling Antimicrobial Poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate)‐Based Hydrogels Integrating Bound Quaternary Ammonia Compounds and Antibiotic Functionalities for Effective Infected Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In situ‐gelling poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate) (POEGMA)‐based hydrogels exhibit broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria based on the dual covalent attachment of quaternary ammonium (QA) groups and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) into the hydrogel networks, enabling effective in vivo burn ...

Experimental modelling of drug absorption and drug absorption interactions

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1986
Abstract Five experimental models of drug absorption were evaluated using chloroquine and phenobarbitone as tracer drugs. Their absorption was followed at different pH values and in the absence and presence of the interactants kaolin and activated charcoal.

Percutaneous Absorption of Drugs

Clinical Pharmacokinetics, 1992
The skin is an evolutionary masterpiece of living tissue which is the final control unit for determining the local and systemic availability of any drug which must pass into and through it. In vivo in humans, many factors will affect the absorption of drugs. These include individual biological variation and may be influenced by race.

EPIDERMAL ABSORPTION OF DRUGS

Archives of Dermatology, 1948
CERTAIN ethylene series are absorbable when applied on the intact skin by gentle spreading. This has suggested the possibility of the use of one of these glycols alone or in mixture with other agents, as a vehicle or carrier for drugs, to promote or enhance their percutaneous absorption.

THE ABSORPTION OF DRUGS [PDF]

open access: possibleJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1923
Most of the drugs employed as therapeutic agents depend on their entrance into the blood stream, either in sufficient concentration or in sufficient total quantity, for the development of their therapeutic actions. Adequate knowledge of their absorption is therefore of fundamental importance to the development of a rational drug therapy.
