Controlled Nanoparticle Formation by Diffusion Limited Coalescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) have a great application potential in science and technology. Their functionality strongly depends on their size. We present a theory for the size of NPs formed by precipitation of polymers into a bad solvent in the presence

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Metal−Organic Frameworks Nucleated by Silk Fibroin and Modified with Tumor‐Targeting Peptides for Targeted Multimodal Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2023
Multimodal therapy requires effective drug carriers that can deliver multiple drugs to specific locations in a controlled manner. Here, the study presents a novel nanoplatform constructed using zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (ZIF‐8), a nanoscale metal ...

Optimization of macromolecular prodrugs of the antitumor antibiotic adriamycin [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
In our earlier work [10] on aminoribosyl-bound prodrugs of adriamycin (ADR) using poly(α-l-glutamic acid) (PGA) grafted in high yield (90–100 mol.%) with various peptide spacers as a plasma-soluble macromolecular carrier we observed rather low cytotoxic ...

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Alginate electrodeposition onto three-dimensional porous Co-Ni films as drug delivery platforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Three-dimensional porous Co–Ni films/alginate hybrid materials have been successfully prepared by electrodeposition to be used as a steerable magnetic device for drug delivery. Firstly, 3D porous Co–Ni films were prepared as substrates for the subsequent

Carrier-Mediated intestinal Transport of Drugs

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Pharmacology, 1996
Recent advances in the field of carrier-mediated intestinal absorption of of amino acids, oligopeptides, monosaccharides, monocarboxylic acids, phosphate, bile acids and several water-soluble vitamins across brush-border and basolateral membranes are summarized. An understanding of the molecular and functional characteristics of the intestinal membrane

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Glucosamine HCl-based solid dispersions to enhance the biopharmaceutical properties of acyclovir [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The objective of the work presented here was to assess the feasibility of using glucosamine HCl as a solid-dispersion (SD) carrier to enhance the biopharmaceutical properties of a BCS class III/IV drug, acyclovir (ACV). The solid-dispersions of acyclovir
