Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Controlled-release neurotensin-loaded silk fibroin dressings improve wound healing in diabetic rat model

open access: yesBioactive Materials, 2019
Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), which may lead to lower extremity amputation, is one of the severe and chronic complications of diabetic mellitus. This study aims to develop, and use dressings based on Silk fibroin (SF) as the scaffold material, gelatin ...

Outlook on the Application of Metal-Liganded Bioactives for Stimuli-Responsive Release

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Direct metal-liganded bioactive coordination complexes are known to be sensitive to stimuli such as pH, light, ion activation, or redox cues. This results in the controlled release of the bioactive(s).

The dissolution and solid-state behaviours of coground ibuprofen–glucosamine HCl [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The cogrinding technique is one of most effective methods for improving the dissolution of poorly water-soluble drugs and it is superior to other approaches from an economical as well as an environmental standpoint, as the technique does not require any ...

Novel application of hydrophobin in medical science: a drug carrier for improving serum stability

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Multiple physiological properties of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) ensure that it is a promising drug candidate for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, the in vivo half-life of GLP-1 is short because of rapid degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase ...

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

3D-Printed Drug/Cell Carrier Enabling Effective Release of Cyclosporin A for Xenogeneic Cell-Based Therapy [PDF]

open access: yes
Systemic administration of the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A (CsA) is frequently associated with a number of side effects; therefore, sometimes it cannot be applied in sufficient dosage after allogeneic or xenogeneic cell transplantation.

Carrier systems and biosensors for biomedical applications. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This chapter addresses both carrier systems and biosensors which are often applied directly to tissues, either as skin patches, implanted or ingested by a variety of routes.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.
