Reducing Adolescent Drug Abuse: Sociological Strategies for Community Practice [PDF]
Strategies for community-based sociological practice are discussed. The role of the sociologist in helping communities to recognize a social problem is analyzed in the context of social construction of reality theory. Once a community accepts that it has

Programmable biomaterials for dynamic and responsive drug delivery [PDF]
Biomaterials are continually being designed that enable new methods for interacting dynamically with cell and tissues, in turn unlocking new capabilities in areas ranging from drug delivery to regenerative medicine. In this review, we explore some of the

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Modelling parasite drug resistance: lessons for management and control strategies [PDF]
Mathematical models of the evolution of drug resistance in infectious diseases are predominantly concentrated in three main areas: antimalarial, antibiotic and anthelmintic resistance. There appears to be little or no cross‐reference between them.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

The Role of Early Maladaptive Schemas and Coping Strategies in Substance Dependency
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the early maladaptive schemas and coping strategies of substance dependents. We hypothesized that substance dependents would have more maladaptive unhealthy schemas and would use less adaptive coping ...

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Modelling the evolution of drug resistance in the presence of antiviral drugs
Background The emergence of drug resistance in treated populations and the transmission of drug resistant strains to newly infected individuals are important public health concerns in the prevention and control of infectious diseases such as HIV and ...

Multistep kinetic self-assembly of DNA-coated colloids
Self-assembly is traditionally described as the process through which an initially disordered system relaxes towards an equilibrium ordered phase only driven by local interactions between its building blocks.
