Exploring antibiotic safety: A prospective observational study from a tertiary care public sector hospital

open access: yesClinical Epidemiology and Global Health
Background: Antibiotics are the most commonly used drugs to treat bacterial infections; however, these life-saving drugs can also cause adverse drug reactions.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by sulfasalazine: Uncommon presentation of a common culprit

open access: yesIndian Journal of Rheumatology, 2022
Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a severe cutaneous adverse drug reaction caused by drugs in the majority of cases. It is characterized by the sudden onset of nonfollicular sterile pustules, papules, and edematous plaques on an ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Atox1 regulates macrophage polarization in intestinal inflammation via ROS-NLRP3 inflammasome pathway

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Background Inflammation and oxidative stress play an important role in the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study aimed to explore the effects of copper chaperone Antioxidant-1 (Atox1) on macrophages in a mouse model of ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A case of probable Amiodarone-induced pancreatitis in the treatment of atrial fibrillation: a literature review and case report

open access: yesJournal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives, 2017
Amiodarone is an effective medication used in the treatment of several different arrhythmias. Its most well-known adverse effects include pulmonary fibrosis, thyroid dysfunction, and hepatotoxicity. A less common side effect is acute pancreatitis.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Allergic drug reactions

open access: yesJornal de Pediatria, 2004
This review addresses the most recent published literature regarding drug allergy, in order to provide physicians with a background for a better understanding of this problem of great relevance for public health. The sources of data for obtaining the original and review articles published in the last 10 years were MEDLINE, Pubmed and Lilacs.
