Ginseng polysaccharides prevent mastitis through Lactobacillus murinus‐derived deoxycholic acid and TGR5 signaling

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Prebiotic Ginseng polysaccharides (GP) alleviate mastitis through selective enrichment of gut L. murinus, which elevates its anti‐inflammatory metabolite deoxycholic acid (DCA). Circulating DCA engages mammary epithelial TGR5 receptors, triggering the cAMP–PKA pathway to suppress NF‐κB/NLRP3‐mediated inflammation.

Ciprofloxacin dry powder inhaler in cystic fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Open Respiratory Research, 2016
Inhaled antibiotics are the backbone of care for people with cystic fibrosis (CF) who have lung infection due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. They have significantly contributed to the improved quality of life (QOL) and increased survival in people with this disease.1 The systematic application of antibiotic eradication therapy for new or recurrent ...

The use of edible insects in human food

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract The world population is expected to reach approximately 10 billion people by 2050, which will significantly increase global food demand and may lead to agricultural shortages and a higher risk of food insecurity. In this context, this review discusses the potential of insects as alternative sources of animal protein, addressing their ...

Asthma Control: The Right Inhaler for the Right Patient. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Inhaled therapy is the cornerstone of asthma management in that it optimizes the delivery of the medication to the site of action. The effectiveness of inhaled therapy is affected by the correct choice of the device and proper inhalation technique.

Role of glutathione and cysteine in acrylamide metabolism during in vitro and in vivo digestion

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Acrylamide, a probable human carcinogen found in thermally processed potato products, is reactive towards amino and thiol compounds. This reactivity suggests acrylamide might react with them in the gastrointestinal tract resulting in mitigation of associated risk with acrylamide.

Reduction in Synaptic Vesicle Protein Abundance but Increased Amounts of Nsg2 and Lpcat1 in Cerebral Cortices Without the Endosomal SNARE Proteins Vti1a and Vti1b

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Absence of the endosomal SNAREs vti1a and vti1b results in perinatal death and severe neuronal phenotypes in mice, while lack of one of these proteins results in minor phenotypes. Proteomic differences were investigated to obtain a deeper insight into processes in which vti1a and vti1b are involved.

Agroforestry and enhanced rock weathering: A dual strategy for sustainable cacao

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Cacao production is both economically vital and environmentally intensive, presenting a major sustainability challenge as a crop largely cultivated by smallholder farmers in climate‐vulnerable regions. This review synthesises evidence that integrating agroforestry with enhanced rock weathering (EW) may significantly reduce emissions from cacao ...
