Monitoring and diagnostic systems for dry type transformers

ICSD'01. Proceedings of the 20001 IEEE 7th International Conference on Solid Dielectrics (Cat. No.01CH37117), 2002
For the monitoring and protection of dry type transformers a cost-effective and efficient system has been developed, which monitors online local overheating using a fibre optic sensor technology. The system allows to prevent secondary failures and cost. An offline analysis of the transfer function can give indications on interturn short circuits.

Failure analysis of dry-type power transformer

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2001
This paper provides the failure analysis of three phase, dry type, silicone resin vacuum pressure encapsulated, 750/1000 kVA, AA/FA, 34.5 kV-480 Y/277 V, delta-wye, power transformer. Transient overvoltage switching surge propagation through the transformer winding and protection margin is discussed. An arbitrary sensitivity of 10 pico-coulombs (pc) at

Partial discharge localization on dry-type transformers

2014 ICHVE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2014
In this paper an electrical partial discharge (PD) localization technique for a dry type power transformer is presented. The method has been tested in the laboratory on real transformer coil as well as on a transformer in a test bay. Calibration signal is injected through a plate sensor placed along the winding on the surface of the transformer coil in

Thermal considerations in specifying dry type transformers

Conference Record Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference 1993, 1993
In 1944, the hottest spot temperature allowance for ventilated dry-type transformers was established as 30/spl deg/C for 80/spl deg/C average winding temperature rise and IEEE standards use a constant 30/spl deg/C hottest spot temperature allowance for all insulation temperature classes and all transformer ratings. Thermal tests under different loading

Cast Coil Transformers: An Alternative to Conventional Dry Type Transformers

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1979
Now that askarel insulated transformers are no longer available because of environmental regulations, engineers are looking to new approaches in design of nonflammable transformers. Cast coil construction is one promising new design. Cast coil construction is compared with the more familiar conventional dry type construction with particular attention ...

Dry type transformers and their insulations

1963 EI Electrical Insulation Conference Materials and Application, 1963
High operating voltage, high temperature, high humidity, reduced weight, and reduced volume have combined to demand the most effective use from the various insulations. The application of epoxy resins for the simultaneous impregnation and casting of the coil assembly prior to the insertion of the magnetic core and associated hardware achieve many of ...

Dry type transformers for power converters

2006 India International Conference on Power Electronics, 2006
Dry type transformers differ from oil immersed transformers mainly in cooling conditions. Converter transformers generally involve more coils, distorted waveforms and high currents. This paper discusses the special cooling conditions needed for dry type transformers, focusing on novel calculation techniques and an easy approach to the design of coils ...

Polemount dry-type transformer - testing and experience

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
The development of a dry-type transformer for pole mounted application and its major features allowing to use it as an outdoor transformer without need for an enclosure was presented at CIRED 2011 [1]. Meanwhile extensive testing of the outdoor performance of the transformer has continued and field installation of pilot units has taken place.

Insulation systems for dry-type transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1955
THIS DIGEST deals with the experimental application of functional test principles to the evaluation of temperature endurance of dry-type power transformers. The object of the tests described was not to test any specific design of dry-type transformers; rather, it was to give a trial run to a test procedure which was under consideration as a Test Code ...

Silicon-organic resin for dry-type transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1955
THE advantages of using silicone-based products in dry-type insulating systems are well known. They are characterized by stability at high operating temperatures and by resistance to the absorption and harmful effects of moisture. These advantages must be weighed against the difficulties which may arise in conjunction with silicone applications.
