Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Productive characteristics of the grass Digitaria umfolozi subjected to defoliation frequencies

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2017
An experiment was carried out to evaluate the dry matter production, total dry matter availability, daily dry matter accumulation rate, light interception, leaf area index, daily accumulation rate, dry matter availability of the morphological components (

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

MODELING NUTRIENTS UPTAKE AS A FUNCTION OF PLANT GROWTH RATE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Soil Sciences and Agricultural Engineering, 2002
The present study was carried out at field scale to predicte the relative uptake of some nutrient elements as a function of relative growth rate{RGR). The test crop was Broad bean (Vicia faba, L.) variety Giza 461.

Mid-season lodging modulates photosynthesis, evapotranspiration, and dry matter accumulation and distribution simulated by the optimized model in maize

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2023
IntroductionMid-season lodging in maize (Zea mays L.) often restricts grain yield potential and is a great hurdle in improving production efficiency. The aim of this research was to study the effects of lodging on photosynthesis, evapotranspiration, dry ...

Perspective on oil flax yield and dry biomass with reduced nitrogen supply

open access: yesOil Crop Science, 2020
Field experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design to determine effects of nitrogen (N) application levels (J0: 150 kg/hm2, J1: 120 kg/hm2, J2: 90 kg/hm2, J3: 60 kg/hm2) on regulating dry biomass accumulation, allocation and ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

The effects of seed rate and row spacing on light interception, dry matter accumulation and seed yield in non-dwarf and dwarf genotypes of autumn-sown determinate white lupins (Lupinus albus ) in north-west Europe

open access: yes, 2002
DOI: 10.1017/S0021859601001691International audienceTwo non-dwarf and two dwarf, autumn-sown determinate genotypes of white lupin (Lupinus albus L.) were sown at three sites in north-west Europe in the crop years, 1995-96, 1996-97 and 1997-98.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
