Some factors effecting the dry matter production of lucerne cultivars

open access: yesJournal of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa, 1988
Dry matter yields of lucerne cultivars were affected by different factors. A simple equation is given for predicting total dry matter yield of irrigated lucerne based on mean maximum temperatures in January. Keywords: alfalfa; cultivars; dormancy rating; dry matter; dry matter production; dry matter yield; dry matter yields; environmental factors ...

Influence of Sink-Source Interaction on Dry Matter Production in Tomato

Annals of Botany, 1995
Abstract Sink-source ratio in tomato was manipulated, in six glasshouse experiments, by fruit pruning (trusses pruned to two to seven fruits immediately after fruit set of each truss), truss pruning (removal of every other truss at anthesis) and truss pruning in plants with two shoots. Periodic destructive harvest were conducted for about 100 d after

A Soil Water Balance and Dry Matter Production Model: II. Dry Matter Production of Oat

Agronomy Journal, 1990
AbstractA simulation study on dry matter production of oat (Avena sativa L.) was carried out on a Typic Hapludalf, at two sites near Göttingen, West Germany, during 1976,1977,1982, and 1983. The model used in this study is a Blackman‐type production model in which a maximum production level is considered.

Gas production and dry matter degradability of diets for ruminants

BSAP Occasional Publication, 2006
SummaryFour feeds widely used in ruminant nutrition (corn silage, alfalfa hay, corn grain and soybean meal) and nine diets prepared in the laboratory by thorough mixing of these four feeds in different ratios, were analysed for: chemical composition according to the Weende and Van Soest schemes.

MODELLING DRY MATTER PRODUCTION AND PARTITIONING IN SWEET PEPPER

Acta Horticulturae, 2006
Models predicting growth and yield have been developed for a large number of crops. This paper describes a dynamic, mechanistic model for sweet pepper, addressing issues such as leaf area expansion, dry matter partitioning and validation. Leaf area formation and organ initiation are simulated as a function of temperature sum.

Potential dry matter production of Miscanthus sinensis in The Netherlands

Industrial Crops and Products, 1992
Abstract The perennial C4-grass Miscanthus sinensis cv. ‘Giganteus’ is being advocated as a new biomass or fibre crop for north-western Europe. Above-ground yields of up to 40 tonnes of dry matter/ha/year have been claimed. Crop parameters of a fully-established M. sinensis stand were measured during the 1991 growing season.

Dry-Matter Production by Evergreen Perennials

Nature, 1962
SOME years ago, Heath and Gregory1 made the generalization that the mean net assimilation-rate was constant for species and environments. Subsequent work has demonstrated some large departures from their mean value of about 0.55 g/dm2/week, although Watson2 has more recently supported the validity of their general conclusion that leaf growth is the ...

Photosynthesis, Respiration, and Dry Matter Production

1976
A full description of methods used in studying CO2-exchange and dry matter production is unnecessary, since a number of excellent reviews have been published on these subjects in recent years (Eckardt, 1968; Heath, 1969; Setlik, 1970; Sestak et al., 1971; Duvigneaud, 1971). With the exception of the last-named of these, the treatments pertain to plants

Influence of deflowering on dry matter production of soybeans

Field Crops Research, 1985
Abstract Soybeans ( Glycine max (L.) Merr.) of maturity group 00 were grown in a greenhouse to investigate the effect of continuous flower removal on growth and dry matter partitioning. After growth stage R1 (initial bloom) one-half of the plants were deflowered daily for 50 days.

Dry Matter Production of Trees at Timberline

1979
In the last chapter it was shown that growth of trees declines as one approaches the timberline, resulting in reduced stature and size of plant organs. This fall-off in growth could underlie an increasing shortage of organic materials, itself a consequence of deficient primary production.
