Service Period, Calving Interval and Dry Period in Italian Buffaloes

Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin Reihe A, 2010
Summary The average lengths of service period (96.6 ± 78.6, 83.4 ± 80.6 days), calving interval (407.2 ± 77.5 days) and dry period (151.1 ± 55.8 days) are reported in Italian buffaloes. The correlation (r = 0.991) between service period and calving interval was highly significant (P < 0.01).

627. Udder infections in the ‘dry period’: V. The effect of teat disinfection at drying-off on the incidence of infections in the early dry period

Journal of Dairy Research, 1956
1. The effect of disinfecting the skin of the teats at drying-off on the incidence of new infection in the early dry period has been studied. After the last milking of lactation the udders of alternate cows to go dry were washed with sodium hypochlorite solution (800 p.p.m.), dried, and each teat immersed in a 5% iodine tincture for 20 sec., and then ...

A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF CONVECTION DRYING IN THE FALLING DRYING RATE PERIOD

Drying Technology, 1988
ABSTRACT Both theoretical and experimental drying indicate that it is necessary to know the kinetics of drying of various materials. It has been generally accepted that in the first period of drying the process is analogous to evaporation from a free liquid surface, and thus the drying agent parameters have a significant influence.

The length of dry and wet periods

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1953
AbstractA study was made of the length of dry and wet spells at five Canadian cities. From the results of the study it was learned that after a wet day the probability of the following day being wet is constant no matter how long the wet period has persisted; the same is true for the weather following a dry day except that there is a slight increase in

Effects of antibiotic therapy at drying off on mastitis in the dry period and early lactation

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1990
SUMMARY Four strategies for selecting cows for intramammary therapy with benzathine cloxacillin at drying off were compared in 12 Victorian dairy herds. The bacteriological status of all quarters of all (1044) cows was determined just before drying off, within 2 d of calving, and again 3 to 5 months after calving.

Analysis of wet and dry periods in Serbia

International Journal of Climatology, 2013
ABSTRACTIn this study, wet and dry periods were analysed using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) on timescales of 1, 3, 6 and 12 months (SPI1, SPI3, SPI6 and SPI12) at ten stations in Serbia during the period 1949–2011. The onset of severe wetness and drought during the period 1999–2001 was presented.

The Frequency of Dry Periods in Maryland

Chesapeake Science, 1971
Precipitation data from 31 stations were analyzed for the purpose of determining the frequency and intensity of dry periods. Dry periods of at least 10 days in length can be expected about 4, 5 and 8 times a year for sequences where precipitation for each day is less than .01, .10, and .25 inch, respectively.

The importance of the dry period in the control of mastitis

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Production, 1956
The variations in the incidence of mastitis and infection with stage in lactation of dairy cattle have been the subject of a number of investigations (Oliver, 1955) but until recent years the udder health of dry cows has been given little attention. This is surprising, because many cows are dry for almost three months in each year and the dry period is

Optimization of grain drying — With rest-periods

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1982
Abstract A method of drying grain with alternate periods of blowing hot air through the grain bed (bin) followed by rest-periods is considered. An attempt is made to give the basic relationship between the “blowing ratio”, that is, the ratio of the cycle time to the blowing time, and the efficiency of drying for various temperatures and air ...
