How Do Microplastics Affect Physical Properties of Silt Loam Soil under Wetting–Drying Cycles?

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Soil physical properties are the main factors that influence soil fertility and directly affect the soil structure and water storage capacity. Microplastics (MPs), which have caused growing concern with respect to soil pollution, have readily been ...

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

A Modified Model for Predicting the Strength of Drying-Wetting Cycled Sandstone Based on the P-Wave Velocity

open access: yes, 2020
The drying-wetting cycles caused by operation of the Three Gorges Reservoir have considerable effect on the deterioration of reservoir bank rock mass, and the degradation of reservoir rock mass by the drying-wetting cycle is becoming obvious and serious ...

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Effect of Wetting-Drying Cycles on Swelling-Shrinkage Behavior and Microstructures of Tropical Residual Expansive Soil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology
Expansive soil is one of the problematic soils that has swelling and shrinking behavior due to fluctuations in water content. So far, the potential content of Montmorillonite clay minerals, dry density, and water content are known to be factors that ...

Vascular Plants and Biocrusts Modulate How Abiotic Factors Affect Wetting and Drying Events in Drylands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Understanding how organisms control soil water dynamics is a major research goal in dryland ecology. Although previous studies have mostly focused on the role of vascular plants on the hydrological cycle of drylands, recent studies highlight the ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.
