Mass Transfer Resistance and Reaction Rate Kinetics for Carbohydrate Digestion with Cell Wall Degradation by Cellulase

open access: yesFoods
This paper introduces an enzymatic approach to estimate internal mass-transfer resistances during food digestion studies. Cellulase has been used to degrade starch cell walls (where cellulose is a significant component) and reduce the internal mass ...

Assessment of Detoxification Efficacy of Irradiation on Zearalenone Mycotoxin in Various Fruit Juices by Response Surface Methodology and Elucidation of Its in-vitro Toxicity

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Fruits are vital portion of healthy diet owed to rich source of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibers, which are highly favorable in keeping individual fit.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Contact drying of particulate pharmaceuticals: modelling and simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In order to give a concrete response to the need of predictive contact drying simulation tools in pharmaceutical industry, simulation programs for contact drying of pharmaceutical powders were developed in this thesis work.

The Application of Pinch Technology to a Novel Closed-Loop Spray Drying System with a Condenser and Reheater

open access: yesEntropy
Spray drying is an energy-intensive process in industrial use, making energy recovery a critical focus for improving overall efficiency. This study investigates the potential of integrating heat-recovery systems, including an innovative air reheater ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Multifilm Mass Transfer and Reaction Rate Kinetics in a Newly Developed In Vitro Digestion System for Carbohydrate Digestion

open access: yesFoods
Multifilm mass transfer theory has been used in conjunction with developing a new in vitro starch digestion model and applied to assessing starch digestion kinetics. One significance of this research is that this in vitro model has similar dynamics, such

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A Review of the Treatments to Reduce Anti-Nutritional Factors and Fluidized Bed Drying of Pulses

open access: yesFoods
Pulses, rich in proteins, dietary fibers, and essential nutrients, play an important role in human nutrition, especially as alternatives to animal proteins.
