Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Neodymium recovery by chitosan/iron(III) hydroxide [ChiFer(III)] sorbent material: Batch and column systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A low cost composite material was synthesized for neodymium recovery from dilute aqueous solutions. The in-situ production of the composite containing chitosan and iron(III) hydroxide (ChiFer(III)) was improved and the results were compared with raw ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Model for Thin Layer Drying of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) by Hot Air

open access: yesProcesses, 2019
Lemongrass is a plant that contains aromatic compounds (myrcene and limonene), powerful deodorants, and antimicrobial compounds (citral and geraniol). Identifying a suitable drying model for the material is crucial for establishing an initial step for ...

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Lattice Modeling of Early-Age Behavior of Structural Concrete. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The susceptibility of structural concrete to early-age cracking depends on material composition, methods of processing, structural boundary conditions, and a variety of environmental factors.

Ultrasound-assisted vacuum drying of nectarine

open access: yesJournal of Food Engineering, 2019
Convective drying is a widely used conservation process, and in an attempt to improve it, the use of ultrasound and/or vacuum can be an alternative. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of ultrasonic waves and vacuum, combined or not,

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Model and simulation of a solar kiln with energy storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A solar kiln with energy storage can be used for continuous drying. This kiln consisted of several units which were modeled to simulate it in operation.

Friction Coefficient of UHMWPE During Dry Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesTribology in Industry, 2013
This paper deals with the friction coefficient behaviour during dry reciprocating sliding of UHMWPE in contact with alumina (Al2O3), within a range of velocities typical for hip implants. Five values of normal force (100 - 1000 mN) and three values of sliding speed (4 - 12 mm/s) have been observed.
