Phenolic compounds in species of the Blechnaceae

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 282-291, January 2026.
The occurrence of caffeic acid derivatives in 32 species of Blechnaceae revealed differences in the presence of rosmarinic acid and blechnic acid B, a novel compound in ferns. Abstract Rosmarinic acid and other caffeic and 4‐coumaric acid derivatives are widespread in land plants.

Water availability and evolutionary similarity shape the global distribution of ferns with chlorophyllous spores

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2025, Issue 11, November 2025.
About 14% of all fern species have chlorophyllous spores, which lack dormancy, have thin walls, and have a shorter viability (only a few days in some species). These spores should have limited dispersal distances and be more susceptible to harsher climatic conditions, raising questions about the evolutionary and ecological significance of this trait ...

Bolbitis lianhuachihensis (Dryopteridaceae), a new species from Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yesPhytoKeys, 2019
A new species ofBolbitis,B. lianhuachihensissp. nov., was found in central Taiwan. It most resembles B. virens var. compacta andB. hainanensis. A phylogenetic tree of Taiwanese and other Asian species ofBolbitisspecies supports the recognition of the new species.

Metabarcoding Reveals Fine Scale Patterns of Trophic Resource Use and Partitioning Along Gradients of Land Use and Deer Density in a Multi‐Species Ungulate Community

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
We used DNA metabarcoding of 2,568 fecal samples to examine seasonal diets and resource partitioning among four deer species (moose, roe deer, red deer, fallow deer) across two Swedish landscapes. Deer consumed a wide range of plants, but diets were typically dominated by a few key taxa, with distinct dietary separation between moose and smaller deer ...
